Design Description

Greyline is an average sized albeit chubby stallion boasting a mane and tail are are just cared for enough to be considered "well-kempt. He's frequently seen with an expressionless, dull look, but that doesn't mean that the pony isn't capable of making a smile every once in a while.

Detailed Personality

Shy, unsure of himself, and potentially suffering from mild depression symptoms, this stallion's personality can easily be described as "meek" or "timid." Detailed History

Born and raised in the city of Canterlot, Greyline was born to a family of two ponies; his father worked as a captain in the Royal Guard, and his mother worked as an architect for the city; he also had an older brother, Stoneshield, who was about two years older than he was. His father would usually be working at the palace or the local barracks, while his mother worked for a local architect firm. View MoreBorn and raised in the city of Canterlot, Greyline was born to a family of two ponies; his father worked as a captain in the Royal Guard, and his mother worked as an architect for the city; he also had an older brother, Stoneshield, who was about two years older than he was. His father would usually be working at the palace or the local barracks, while his mother worked for a local architect firm. Being busy parents, this usually meant that the two would end up in daycare during the work day. He was quite inspired by comics, such as the Power Ponies, which inspired him to make his own artwork. Despite being brothers, Stoneshield was quite different from Greyline, adopting some of the traits that most upper class ponies in the city of Canterlot had, and he would eventually enter school while Greyline, being two years younger, continued to go to daycare. He'd garner a circle of friends during his time in elementary school.

Greyline would eventually go to school as well; however, the young colt would be quite quick to notice that most ponies didn't act the way he did. Unlike most other ponies in Canterlot, he was quite modest and never really cared for his appearance unlike most others living in the city; he was also a bit overweight for a pony his age; his school was also home to plenty of colts and fillies growing up in rich families, unlike Greyline's own family which fell firmly into the middle-class. He would also have issues socializing with other ponies, being quite shy and mostly keeping to himself during most of his days. Thanks to how much he stuck out, it wasn't uncommon for him to be a target for bullying, earning a reputation of a social outcast as well in the process; as a result, he lacked many friends while he grew up, and grew to resent most of his classmates as well. Most of his days in as a colt would be spent indoors, playing by himself with the toys he owned, drawing in the sketchbooks he was gifted, or making short comic strips for fun instead of playing with the other foals outside. He would eventually earn his cutie mark after winning an art contest hosted by the city, and even got to meet Princess Celestia herself during the event. During his later years in high school, he became a part of his school's newspaper, The Hoofprint, mostly writing columns focused on the happenings within the city of Canterlot, and gossip happening around his own high school, giving him experience in writing; he even got to help design illustrations for the school's yearbook.

Once Greyline graduated from high school, his good scores and his special talent were able to get him a scholarship that helped him get into one of Canterlot's prestigious universities, thanks to some convincing from his mother. The unicorn would eventually choose to go into college, thinking that it would be nothing more than a walk in the park, but unfortunately for him, he was caught completely off guard, flunking multiple courses during his first couple of semesters. On top of that, he would also have to deal with stress being put upon him from coursework, symptoms caused by depression, and a few professors giving him a harder time than he thought. Ultimately, he would push through, thanks to the support of his parents and help from therapy, working a part time job in a book store by the name of The Author's Attic on the side. Greyline would eventually go on to earn a Major in Art, and a Minor in Creative Writing.

While his brother would go on to serve in the Equestrian Royal Guard, Greyline simply wished to pursue more creative endeavors. After graduating, he spent a couple of years working at a commercial art studio while still living in parent's home, though it was an endeavor he didn't enjoy mostly due to the high standards and rudeness of many of the clients that he and the company had to work with. In his free time, he made a series of comic strips with the simple name of "Canterlotian," inspired by his experience from dealing with the snooty residents living in the city of Canterlot, nothing more than a scathing satire dedicated to bashing the culture of the rich and well-to-do, with some dry and witty humor thrown into the mix. To his surprise, a few of his coworkers found it hilarious. Remembering his interest in comics as a young colt, he decided to submit it to several comic syndicates across Equestria, eventually getting picked up by Noble Features. Not only did his strip gain quite the moderate amount of success, but it also gave him enough money to move out of the city he loathed having to live in his entire life.

After a while, he'd choose to settle down in a cheap studio apartment in the city of Manehattan, close to where the headquarters of the syndicate he worked for, and also the home of the Times of Manehattan, one of the many newspapers across Equestria that published his comic. However, he was quickly caught off guard by how expensive living in the city was; living in Canterlot was something that few ponies could afford, but he wasn't expecting a city like Manehattan to require having a hefty amount of money to live in either, even if it was quite cheaper than having a house back in the quite lavish and costly city. While his strips find moderate success, he sometimes finds himself having to work odd jobs and part time jobs to make ends meet. With his own family being so far away, and having nearly no friends at all, he tends to find himself facing the more negative sides of his psyche from time to time. Even worse, his comics have proven to be unpopular and even quite controversial with the elite, earning him something of a negative reputation among nobles, businessponies, and many others.

• Drawing - Greyline's main talent; this stallion excels at being able to draw just about anything near-perfectly with nothing more than a pencil and a sheet of paper.

• Writing - Acquired through reading novels as a young colt, as well as helping write for his school's newspaper.

• Cooking - Greyline has a bit of a talent for making good meals, gained through self-learning and plenty of cookbooks.
