Detailed History

Ironfire and Iron Filigree. A pair of twins, both unicorns, one stallion and one mare. Born to parents Hard Iron, a earth pony blacksmith stallion, and Jewel Dancer, a unicorn jeweller mare. Originating in Manehatten, the parents relocated to Canterlot shortly after the birth of their children, opening and operating their own forge, primarily with Hard Iron doing the work, with his wife helping on some of the more decorative items and pieces, whilst doing a small amount of side work herself. Originating in Manehatten, the parents relocated to Canterlot shortly after the birth of their children, opening and operating their own forge, primarily with Hard Iron doing the work, with his wife helping on some of the more decorative items and pieces, whilst doing a small amount of side work herself. Over the years, the twins gravitated towards one parent, Ironfire following more closely after his father, picking up a similar hard working attitude and a love of metalworking and blacksmithing. Meanwhile, Iron Filigree followed more after her mother, though the forge environment led to a broader talent of goldsmithing, whilst her mother’s caring and friendly nature had more of an effect on Filigree, causing her to be more laid back and casual about her work with a slightly bubbly personality.

Over the years, the forge itself saw many changes and expansions, most notably the addition of a basement, moving long term storage down there, and allowing the upper floor to be converted into a living space. It was only when the parents chose to retire and move back to family in Manehatten that the reasoning behind it came clear. His talent and dedication to the forge meant it was passed on to Ironfire, whilst also providing him a place to live. Whilst he and his sister did get along, their personalities occasionally caused minor strife, usually with Ironfire unable to handle the energy of his sister. Due to this, the old home, which they had gotten close to outgrowing was passed on to Filigree, along with the funds to set up her own business using her talents as a goldsmith.

These days, the pair work and run their own businesses;

Iron’s Forge

A place for all blacksmithing and metalworking needs. Whilst able to any work from making and repairing armour, tools and weapons, a great deal of work comes from many nobles looking for display works for their homes, or the occasional guard pony that comes through looking for some adjustments on fittings or minor repairs. Expansion of the business caused Ironfire to seek an apprentice; one he found in a unicorn mare by the name of Ryo. Eager to learn, she was by his side through the long days, starting early and finishing late. Iron came to depend upon her, and it allowed him to more easily relax and take on bigger orders and jobs. Their relationship didn’t remain that way, eventually blossoming into romance, with the pair of them now living in the living space upstairs.

Fine Filigree

Available for custom jewellery of all shapes and sizes, as well as repairs to antiques and family heirlooms. Whilst not as long established as the forge her parents used to run, the higher end value of the things she made ensured Filigree is never short on custom from the many nobles that look for such custom works. Even though she lacks her brother’s dedication to rise at the crack of dawn, usually preferring to roll out of bed when she feels like it, her business is off to no small amount of success as a boutique jewellery store.

Meanwhile, despite working apart for most things, one or the other might get a job a little too large for themselves, or requiring the expertise of the other, ensuring the pair still work and collaborate together when needed. The addition of Ryo to Iron’s Forge has lessened the amount of collaboration, but the twins still make sure to catch up from time to time, being the only family they have in the city.
