Detailed Personality

L'ethe has a rather solemn personality. Once a stalwart soul, now a hollow shell of what they once were. However, he does aim to be kind for the most part, only lashing out when things seem to overwhelm them emotionally or physically.

Over time, they have garnered a slight paranoia, seeing others as potential adversaries; this causes a rather big social wall to be erected within their mind as distrustfulness comes more easily than letting down those walls.

Most of L'ethe's education stems from self-teaching. He does lack a sense of magical understanding, finding most aspects of it to be an "out of this world" experience.

However, in the past, they were trained in a military manner; this instilled a hollow discipline and overt loyalty to those who commanded them.

Detailed History

Beginning:

L'ethe was born a thousand years ago, when the Sisters of the Sun and Moon found solace in their duties. Yet, as they grew up, they found the Night to be ... enchantingly beautiful. Longing adventures through the darkness brought a sense of yearning to know more about it, and thus, he did.

L'ethe was born a thousand years ago, when the Sisters of the Sun and Moon found solace in their duties. Yet, as they grew up, they found the Night to be ... enchantingly beautiful. Longing adventures through the darkness brought a sense of yearning to know more about it, and thus, he did.

Years went by, and L'ethe's obsession with the Night only grew. Exploring Equestria, they had caught wind of just how the Sun and Moon worked in tandem with one another. Alicorn sisters. Then, L'ethe became determined. Determined to devote himself wholly to the Night, and who ruled it.

However, when the time came for his dream to bloom into fruition, they found themselves at the hoof of Nightmare Moon. Not the Princess Luna he had heard stories of. And yet ... his devotion did not waver. No, it grew. Bringing himself to heel in her service, he had been granted a chance to feel the Night in its totality: the Moon, and the Mare who controlled it.

The Fall:

But, alas, that dream was shattered like a million stars falling from the Night sky. When Nightmare Moon was sealed away into the Moon, L'ethe was left alone. Alone, and furious. Anger fueled an attack against the Alicorn of the Sun, but he was struck down.

Death felt ... dark. Not like the dark of the Night, but suffocating. And yet, he did not fall over the brink. No. Loyalty and devotion. Both pushed the Bat-Pony beyond death. Enduring pain and some twisted prospect within their genetic make-up, L'ethe retreated to the Mountains.

Years of Isolation:

It was during the Thousand Years of Isolation that L'ethe had learned the magic that had nearly killed them, altered them. They came across this when a wandering Unicorn had gotten close. Too close. Magical Essence became a form of sustenance. And more.

But, during these thousand years, the news of Nightmare Moon's return found its way to L'ethe's ear. And the span of a thousand years seemed to collapse in on itself. The idea of her return reignited a flame that never seemed to dissipate.

Her Return, and Onward:

Nightmare Moon's return brought L'ethe back in full swing. Baring against anypony who dared oppose the Mare's rule with malicious violence. But, once more, his loyalty brought naught but ruin to his life. The Elements of Harmony, once thought to be long gone, were now in the grasp of the Mane Six - and, in one final act of devotion, L'ethe aimed to sacrifice himself to protect Nightmare Moon.

But alas, it was an attempt made in vain. Taking another near-fatal blow, L'ethe could only watch as Nightmare Moon was once again defeated ... and thus, his stature crumbled. Taking a retreat from the field of battle, they disappeared into the Night—a foal's tale spoken in hushed whispers of an armored pony cutting through the Night sky, weeping for his charge's return.
