Detailed Personality

Mint Petal is quite a schizoid and paranoid unicorn. Although she may come off as cold and apathetic, she is very knowledgeable in the field of arcane study. She does not, however, give answers to hard questions or projects for free, usually asking for books as payment. Outside of her office, expect her to be reserved, possibly not even wanting to talk to others, a mare of her own business. If she does talk, expect her to be stoic and blunt, if not a bit curious, depending on the subject matter.

Detailed History

Mint Petal is the only child of an earth pony father and a unicorn mother. Before she could even have any memories of her father, he vanished from her life. Since that event, her mother became depressed and very controlling, using magic to make Mint obey whatever she said. She was the third pony in her class to earn her cutie mark, by accidentally changing the color of her mane and tail from a cool, minty green to jet black, though her mane is permanently fading over time to gray. Since that event, her mother became depressed and very controlling, using magic to make Mint obey whatever she said. She was the third pony in her class to earn her cutie mark, by accidentally changing the color of her mane and tail from a cool, minty green to jet black, though her mane is permanently fading over time to gray. She was constantly bullied throughout school leading to her distrust and avoidance of every pony possible. Her first large incident was when she asked another filly to a school dance, unaware of social customs. She has been ridiculed for that event, and many other aspects, until her graduation.

Almost immediately after graduating, she left for Ponyville for some peace and quiet, as well as independent magic study. After a few years of staying in Ponyville, she received a letter from the Canterlot Archives, offering her a job as an arcane researcher. She immediately took the job and moved back to Canterlot, where she now resides in an apartment complex about 15 minutes away from the Archives. To date, she has published numerous studies, her most most notable ones being on arcano-waveforms (magic currents, akin to electrical ones) and focused projectile magic (lasers!).

Recently, Mint has been relocated to live in the Crystal Empire, studying and teaching at the University of the Crystal Empire, given the mostly undiscovered, possibly magical history of Mint's new home. During her studies in the Crystal Empire, she learned of her lineage, possibly as to why her mother was so overbearing. She's a descendant of Glissando, a unicorn stallion minor nobility, from several generations back, and hails from pure unicorn blood as such. At least until she was born, that is. Given how status is everything in Canterlot, such news could have her reputation take a hit. Of course, she no longer has that to worry about that, as the Crystal Empire's social status is much different from Canterlot's, as she's still learning.
