A hoof that barely reaches a wolf’s ear will still pat it with perfect confidence, and the endearments “sugar,” “good pup,” or “darlin’” fall from him as naturally as breathing. There is no condescension in it; only the calm affection of someone who has long since stopped measuring worth by height. Through his thirties and forties he drifted through boardrooms and backrooms like smoke, expanding the family holdings into lobbying, Cloudsdale weather futures, and crystal-mining concessions that quietly redrew half the kingdom’s economic map. Always small enough to be underestimated. Always rich enough that no one could afford to admit they had been outmaneuvered by something the size of a cocker spaniel.

Now, at forty-five, the miniature stallion in the flawless three-piece vest is rumored to hold more proxy votes in Parliament than the Princess of the Night and more liquid bits than the entire Apple Trust. He still signs every contract in the same slow, honeyed drawl he learned at his parents’ knees.
