Midnight Arcana is sickly. Perhaps not in her figure- yet, at least- but in the way her vibrant green mane and tail fade to grey at the tips despite her seemingly young age. The way her coat at the hooves is blackened, the tiny shards of dark crystal embedded around her horn, the small cracks in her horn… Something is wrong with her and it shows. Midnight Arcana is not that complicated a mare. She simply wants to learn the workings of dark magic, and perhaps find a way to safely live forever? She’s quite scared of death, you see. Or imprisonment, so perhaps a way to escape any bonds? A-and a way to stop ponies from coming after her? And of course she doesn’t want to hurt them, but does it really count if their brain blocks out the trauma afterwards? Arcana has an education comparable to that of a graduate who never attended higher education- when it comes to most things. However, when it comes to magic, and especially magic of the dark variety, she has knowledge equivalent to a degree and years of study beyond her own.

She doesn’t know. One moment she had a life, parents- what were their names?- a hometown- where?- friends, a foalhood… And then her memories become clearer, and all that feels oily, dream-like, uncertain. Something’s wrong, she knows it, but what? Who is she and where did she come from? She feels less and less certain she truly knows.
