Design Description

This witcher is rarely seen except for the times he strays into villages or cities, seeking to offer his bloody work for gold. More often than not this witcher will come and go before many have the chance to speak with him, merely coming to fetch the coin he’s owed before heading on his way to the next job. He’s a driven and lonesome soul, spending a vast majority of his life wandering lonely paths that stray from any form of contact, but he prefers his peace and quiet to busy streets. View MoreMore often than not this witcher will come and go before many have the chance to speak with him, merely coming to fetch the coin he’s owed before heading on his way to the next job. He’s a driven and lonesome soul, spending a vast majority of his life wandering lonely paths that stray from any form of contact, but he prefers his peace and quiet to busy streets. Due to being raised in a guild of monster hunters, manners, etiquette and luxury are often foreign concepts to him but confidence in his own abilities certainly isn’t. He’s a stallion that, since he was a boy, has been trained and engineered for one singular purpose and his personality reflects such. He isn’t afraid to speak his mind and wield his tongue like a blade, even if it means escalation. He wastes no time in mincing words, preferring to say things plainly and honestly rather than dance around them, even if it means feelings get hurt. He can often come across as crude due to this.

While he may excel in the scope of his profession, anywhere beyond that is where Loki begins to struggle. While he loves the freedom and adventure his job brings, he has no real concept of ‘normal’ things, and as such struggles to adapt to regular environments. He isn’t used to feeling complex emotions such as love, sadness or even true joy. This can often make him come across as cruel, callous and cold. He has no experience working a typical job, or even something like owning a small home. Without his life as a Witcher, he fear he’d lose his purpose and fulfilment, as well as feeling he’s bound to the job by responsibility.

The reputation Witcher carry as heartless, emotionless killers is one that tarnishes their image. He’s used to picking up the gold tossed at his hooves while he gets spat on and cursed at. He was used to it, but those encounters with fellow ponies and the atrocities he’s seen his kind commit during his youth have warped and shaped his unique view on the world around him, often time making him feel closer to the monsters he hunts rather than the ponies he blends among. While he may be the very thing sent to kill monsters and horrors out there in the untapped wilds, he knows some of the worst of them all are the ones behind their walls of stone.

The Choice

He would be initiated as an apprentice before carrying on with further trials to see if he was fit. As an apprentice, dietary changes would be made and training would become his life. Day in and day out he would undergo brutal training for years, learning how to effectively wield a vast variety of weaponry (prioritizing swords), cast simple magical signs, as well as learning extensively about monster lore and alchemy. Once his training as an apprentice was complete, he was offered the choice to take the plunge and become a full witcher and carry on with the remainder of the trials to become a creature of the hunt. Accepting this offer and his new way of life, Loki would begin the next trial.

Trial of the Grasses

The most brutal of all trials and training was the Trial of the Grasses. The young apprentices would first be given an herbal tea before being strapped down and secured to a table, where tubes would be inserted into veins to begin to pump potent elixirs through the body. This table was where they would spend the next week. The first stage of this trial was designed to break down the body and force it to undergo change and forge into something stronger utilizing magic along with chemical and alchemical ingredients such as mutagens and herbs. The process is extremely painful and traumatic on the body, causing a staggering amount of deaths among the apprentices, so many that its said only every three of ten survive. Those that do survive would devolve into a state of madness where they endured relentless pain and coughing, which eventually progressed into vomiting and cold sweats with another dose of elixirs. Those that endure and make it through this trial would awaken different, their eyes altered to that of a viper. After a mere few days to allow their young bodies to rapidly heal, they would feel their mutations settle in and begin to adapt to their changed body.

Trial of the Mountains

The final trial, serving more as a final exam to a witcher to test all of their training and knowledge gained over the years of their training. They would be sent out to cross a body of water leading into a treacherous cavern guarded by an old and particularly dangerous cyclops, one who had already been the death of many apprentices before. They were to navigate through the caves (ideally without alerting the beast) before beginning the ascent up the mountain where various trolls and beasts awaited. Should the witcher make it to the top they would reach the Circle of Elements, a place of great magical power. There they would activate their medallions and finish their training, becoming a witcher.
