Midnight was only a few days old when her mother passed away. Her father, Electric Storm, raised her to the age of three before he remarried to a mare named Doodle Bug. From the age of three on Midnight only knew Doodlebug as her mother. Storm never told her of her mother but would if she had questions. From the age of three on Midnight only knew Doodlebug as her mother. Storm never told her of her mother but would if she had questions. Growing up Midnight found inspiration drawing from her mother Doodlebug, and found the love of the stars and space from her father Storm. Storm was often gone during the day guarding at the castle in Canterlot and the nights planning out the next week’s system of weather. Midnight grew custom to waking up in the middle of the night to find her dad outside watching the sky. She would sketch down in her journal the new constellations that she would learn and their star positions. During the day Midnight and her mother would walk around and learn about the different creatures and gardens in Canterlot. Midnight also journaled the creatures in her journal and the flowers she found most beautiful. This became one of her favorite hobbies and soon took up drawing other ponies as well. While in school Midnight met a filly named Fluttershy, they both had similar interests in animals, Fluttershy was worried she was going to be the last in her class to gain her mark. Midnight had never given it any real thought on what she wanted her mark to be, so she never worried but believed one day it would appear. As Midnight moved away from school and eventually went off to college she wanted to study more into animals, she was older than most mares everyone often teased her for her flank being blank but she had confidence that she would eventually get it, she worried often about ever getting it. Once she was in school she became friends with another veterinary pony named Fauna. Fauna and Midnight ended up becoming very close throughout their school. Midnight got her cutiemark towards the end of their schooling when she hatched a water phoenix egg; the bird was small and wounded. She knew she had care for the creature and figure out how to help it best to her ability. Midnight ended up asking her father if he could schedule a meeting with the Princesses because Princess Celestia had a fire phoenix, turns out even the Princesses had very little knowledge on the creatures but gave her as much information as they could. Growing up caring for the phoenix, who she named Blue Jay, she started to understand the clicks and noises that the creature would make to understand what she needed. She started to learn how to mimic them to communicate with her pet. When Midnight first ever showed Fauna her mouth almost hit the edge of Equestria. Midnight ended up becoming a specialist in rare creatures and often travels throughout Equestria to take notes and document her findings and what she learns. Fauna and sometimes Fluttershy would write letters to Midnight in her time away. After an injury her father encouraged her to return home, but that he would be moving to Ponyville on orders of the Princess to relax to only be called on duty in case of emergencies. Doodlebug, Storm and Midnight moved to Ponyville quickly and as Midnight healed she realized her friend Fauna lived in the town as well as her friend Fluttershy. Fluttershy and Midnight had grown apart once Celestia’s pupil Twilight Sparkle had moved to town. Fauna and Midnight grew close again after she returned; they ended up opening a veterinary clinic together.
