Design Description

Deirdre is a pale shade of ivory like an elephant's tusk. It's a little tough sometimes to make out the crystalline shimmering of her coat because it's so light, but she IS a crystal pony. Her eyes aren't much darker, the same color as the underside of olive leaves. The crystal tones only really come out in her terra cotta coloured mane, which is always styled for comfort and function. She has slightly bushy eyebrows that would be very expressive if Deirdre had things to express.

Deirdre is very... analytical. She doesn't really share a lot of feelings about anything in particular, because she's been trained as a weapon and as a shield without much else. She doesn't really have a lot of feelings about anything in particular. This makes her very direct and upfront, at times too much so, and can be uncomfortable for those around her.

Detailed History

Let's start at the beginning. Before ponies, or griffons, or dragons, or even bugs, there was a creature who roamed the planet all alone. He fancied himself king, and he danced in the forests and sang in the meadows. And for a time, he was happy. The world was quiet and it was his. But one day, as he skipped along a riverbank, he stopped. He listened. And suddenly his heart was filled with a terrible longing. A longing to hear someone sing back to him. A longing to just once see another living c... View MoreLet's start at the beginning. Before ponies, or griffons, or dragons, or even bugs, there was a creature who roamed the planet all alone. He fancied himself king, and he danced in the forests and sang in the meadows. And for a time, he was happy. The world was quiet and it was his. But one day, as he skipped along a riverbank, he stopped. He listened. And suddenly his heart was filled with a terrible longing. A longing to hear someone sing back to him. A longing to just once see another living creature. For days and weeks he sat by the river and he longed, and he hoped, and he wasted away. And he thought.

And he had an idea.

Scooping mud from the side of the bank, he formed a little creature with long ears and a small tail, and when he set it down, it sprang to life! Overjoyed at his discovery, he worked by the river to create as many creatures as he could think of. And that is how the first creatures came to be. Soon enough, the world was filled with creatures hopping and running and flying and swimming. He was no longer alone. And for a time, he was happy. The world was lively and it was perfect. Centuries passed. He stayed there in his home and he watched the creatures as they frolicked and made friendships and fell in love. The world was good and just.

And then War came to the world.

She had heard of his world, of his creatures and their love, and she wanted to see it for herself. So she flew down to visit and with her came Fear. The creatures became jaded and cruel, and learned hatred and anger. They began to fight. War left as soon as she heard, but it was too late. The damage was done. The creatures were no longer purely good and just, but egotistical, lazy, hateful. And they hurt each other.

As pain and suffering ravaged the world, it attracted attention. A god came to visit the world with one goal in mind: to remove the creatures.

This scared Him. He loved these creatures, seeing the good things they could do. And so He spoke with the god and they agreed to a test. They would give these creatures the chance to choose compassion and selflessness over war and sloth. He set to work. He crafted an enchanted bronze blade, which would be keen and quick as long as it had a Wielder. For the handle, a fine leather inscribed with a phrase known to many Wielders. This was the first half. Blade in hand, He disguised Himself, and He travelled far and wide across what had now become Equestria until He found a foal whose heart was pure and sweet. He tricked her, leading her away from her home and into the woods.

She gave him her name. His gentle words coaxed it from her, and then it was all over.

He stole her heart, too. Carved it right out with the bronze blade. Then he gave her the name Deirdre and cursed her. He took her heart and her name and left Equestria, bringing them to another world. And a pony wandered into the woods and found a blade. When she touched it, a phrase was carved into her skin, and a legacy began.
