I'm baaaaaack~
So here we are with part 3! This one is related to shading!
As you can see in the bottom right I've used black for my shading on a low opacity. The black makes it look muddy and sucks all of the energy and life out of the piece! It looks very dull!
In the top left picture I've used a reddish pink color on "multiply" and low opacity. This makes the image so much more vibrant and it pops out more. It's such a small thing but makes a huge difference when you're looking at them side by side!!! Even when I shaded the white eyes and teeth I used that red color and it still works out nicely!
So the next time you're drawing try to get yourself to use colors for your shading! A night scene could use blue or purple shading, even green depending on the environment!
All of this applies to highlights as well! I almost always use yellow for my highlights, using "overlay". Depending on the pallet of the piece or the environment/mood you can also use pink or blue. Anything goes!
Note: Of course there's a time and a place for everything! Using black for shading if you're going for a specific style or more of a comic book look is totally fair! I'm not saying never use black!
