It's been noticeable. She's been trying to pretend she's just busy with stuff to do around the house, that she's tired...but she really just doesn't want to talk to them about last night.
She can't get it out of her head though. She's had moments that made her question her sanity, but this....absolutely takes the cake. She's just finished re-organizing the living room, fluffing the pillows and replacing the blankets...and collapses on the sofa, not voluntarily, her legs give out, and she faceplants.
Her vision swims as her fever dream from the last night comes back, playing out again. She still can't explain it-it was...not her demons this time. They might fuck with her dreams but this time she was awake.
She had awoken deep in the night, thirsty as usual, but she felt sick....about as sick as she had felt while in the hospital. The oddest part was her hearing. It was...heightened sickeningly. She could hear everything-the tick of the clock nearby, the wind rustling outside through the closed windows...and the beating of her own heart, as well as Lyle's. It had been so odd, hearing the thump thump of their pulse.
At first, she had just leaned in to admire the sound, but as she had gotten closer to his neck, some odd, unbidden urge had gripped her, the thirst-for whatever reason, her brain had gone to the thought of Lyle's blood rippling, pumping beneath his skin, gushing through his veins, full of blood-she could almost smell it through his skin, rusty, red tones; his blood was singing a song that her ears could now hear, and before she knew what she was doing, she had found herself about to sink her teeth into his neck.
She had, of course, jerked back to reality before biting him, scooting away from him in repulsion and heaving for breath.
She had gone downstairs and chugged water, trying to rid herself of her thirst, but finding it inadequate, drank most of a bottle of cooking sherry and fell asleep on the sofa, passed out.
And now, again, she finds herself curling up, shuddering as she tries to get the fever dream out of her head...
