The capital city of Equestria, home to most of the Unicorn population in the country and therefore the most dangerous place for a Protoss to be. The air itself was filled with magic, every corner tainted with enough of it that even a completely healthy Khul'dêmar would pass out within a minute. And yet, Zerathur was there. His blue eyes had completely lost their glow and his legs trembled lightly with the sheer force of the magic that surrounded him, despite the efforts anti-energy armor that his sister, Erian, had made to him. He walked across the city, every step a phenomenal feat, as he made his way towards the Mercy Guard HQ. - An important meeting was about to take place, and it would decide the next leader of the military group after the vanishing of the last Surgeon Captain, Dr. Lassara. Sadly, she had never appointed any other as the second in command, preferring instead to split the Doctor Commander rank and setting one for every province of Equestria. A fiery debate on who was the best choice to take over the group was about to start, as each pony believed to have greater medical expertise over the others, with the exception of only a couple, who remained calm and focused during the conference. - Zerathur sat down on his chair, his eyes slowly focusing on each pony that sat around the large round table. A couple of seats were still empty (The Commanders in charge of Manehattan and Appleloosa were unable to come in time due to transport complications) when the discussion began. The one in charge of Canterlot, a green unicorn, was the first to speak. His speech was long and mainly focused on his own doings and the battles that he helped to win. Some applauded, others just shook their heads and shrugged. The next one spoke, and the next, and the next... - When it was time for Zerathur to speak, he just raised his eyes to look at all others before making a small movement with the hoof. "I'll pass." He simply said. The others looked at him in disbelief, but soon resumed their line of speeches, some being applauded and some being frowned upon. Once they were all done, the mainline discussion began, and it would've lasted for hours on end... - But it didn't, for half an hour later one of the Dr. Commanders, the one in charge of Cloudsdale, raised his voice above the others and silenced them all with an imponent voice. "Silence!... If anyone here truly believes that their medical skill surpasses the others, then raise your left hoof towards the sky." And so, a third of the room raised their hooves. "Who here has ever even had to use such skills in the heat of battle?" Another question emerged from the same pony, and this time only four of the previous ones had raised their hooves. "Doctor Naszberuk, do I have to repeat my question?" - Dazed with the very mention of his last name, the protoss raised the eyes to look at the others that surrounded him, noticing that most of them were staring back at him. He awkwardly put his left hoof up, looking down to avoid the stares. Soon, the last question emerged. "Who here is willing to forfeit their very lives for the safety of others, and would sacrifice everything to have others reach safety?..." A small smile sprouted on the face of the protoss. What kind of question was that? It was so cheesy and mechanical, definitely the others would keep their hooves up. - He raised his sight and was stunned once more, for he was the only one with the hoof pointed upwards. He quickly set it back down and shook the head. "No no no, I know what you're thinking... This is a bad idea. I'm a protoss. A refugee. A bleeder. I barely made it through a simple walk in Canterlot in one peace without being shredded by magic!" He quickly said, and some did agree with his words, but the others were unphased. "If there's anyone in here that is against having Doctor Naszberuk be promoted into Captain of the Mercy Guard, speak now or silence theeself for eternity." The Cloudsdale pony spoke once more, and all others stayed in silence. The Canterlot Dr. Cmmdr. huffed and looked away, but did not interfere. - "So it is done... Zerathur Naszberuk, by the vote of the council, you've been elected as the Doctor Captain of the Mercy Guard. The Princess will be warned about the power changes, and the paperwork will be sent to your office in Ponyville." // This was... Quite a long one. Holy Khas.
