Here in the UK -- depending on the supermarket -- to use the trolleys [Translation: carts] you gotta' put a pound sterling [1 dollar coin?] into this slot that only opens again when you return it.

Certain supermarket chains in the US do this too. Aldi's the only one I know that for sure does it but there's probably others that do too

We do have other places that don't do that. Those are the places where you see an odd cart or two thrown outside of the area of the store and laying dead on some grassy patch

Considering I work at one of the grocery stores as a manager, it's certainly easier if at the very least the carts make it to a cart retrieval corral, and definitely appreciated
