Revenge Rarity, Acrylic on Canvas board, 14"x18", 2025
Arise, Daughter. Here is the painting that has been rattling around in my head for many months now, finally realized in matter, energy, time and space. I am entirely satisfied, she is everything I hoped she would be, and then some. What follows is my rather lengthy explanation of everything, and there's a lot, that went into this.
First of all, where are we? In what AU does this occur? Well, first of all, I want to say that Revenge Rarity has nothing to do with Lil Miss Rarity, at all. Very important point, Revenge Rarity is an entirely different, and far superior beast. There's no dungeon that can hold her, and I have proof.
To understand Revenge Rarity, you have to know that she hails from the AU of the Rarity Versus The Changelings mod, for GZDOOM. This masterpiece of a DOOM mod was originally created by bahatumay.
So, to experience what I experienced, go here:

You absolutely should play this mod. DOOM and mods for DOOM have been, and really still are, a big part of my life as a gamer. I've played a great many of them. Most are pretty traditional and lately, I'd been short on inspiration. But then, while working on my Pinkie Pie DOOMGUY Ship, I encountered this.
I know a good DOOM mod when I see one. Yes, Rarity Versus The Changelings Packaged Version is a mod of a mod. Yes, the texture count is rather low. Yes, the levels are a bit rudimentary and lumpy. Yes, some of the art work is corny, certain things look a lot better than others. I certainly wish this mod had been given a bit more polish and attention to detail.
But none of that really matters. The mod is fast-paced, refreshing, a totally unique adventure far outside of the norm, and most of all, it is challenging as all Hell. Like any real DOOM mod should be. You do not approach this mod with an arrogant or dismissive attitude, it will very quickly kick your ass if you do. The enemies are inventive, deadly, quick and unpredictable. The game keeps a tight choke hold on resources, you've got to play with discipline. That said, it is not unbalanced. The Hoofsaw is devastating, and far more practical than the chainsaw ever is in Vanilla DOOM. There's a lot of up close and personal combat here.
Rarity's magical attacks are staggeringly powerful, but she cannot take too much punishment. Armor is present but hard to maintain. You need to conserve your mana for certain situations. Health is very hard to come by. Again, the game will punish sloppy playing. Don't let the cartoonish aspect fool you.
In a nutshell, the story of this AU is that the Changelings have kidnapped the rest of the Mane 6 plus Sweetie Belle, but minus Rarity. The game describes this as Queen Chrysalis' greatest, most historic mistake. Rarity is mad, really really mad. She dives straight into the bowels of the Hive with a singleness of purpose, and a ferocity, that will slice wide open any and all Changelings that get in her way.
And you'd better not pull any punches, because the Changelings have plenty of nasty surprises in store. Whether it is an entire bestiary of Changeling subspecies, giant Lyra and Bon Bon clones or shape shifter Trixies and Pinkie Pies, you're going to have an uphill battle to fight.
Neither the Cyber Trixie, nor Queen Chrysalis are casual walks in the park as far as boss fights are concerned.
The Assimilated Changeling Pinkie Pie is simply the most terrifying boss fight I've ever had to overcome in any iteration of DOOM ever. And that is saying a great deal. Any of her five attacks are almost one shot knockdowns. The splash damage from even glancing blows will decimate you. Fighting Assimilated Changeling Pinkie Pie leaves you feeling spiritually rattled. A nightmare of a boss fight and the true climax of the experience.
But don't take my word for any of this. If you want a fast paced, four  episode DOOM adventure that you'll never forget, play Rarity Versus The Changelings.  The game benefits from plenty of text screens, unique intermission artwork, and even several animated cutscenes in-game, plus a crawler image at the end. It's much heavier on story than most DOOM mods are, and more ambitious in its presentation.
It has given us a Rarity who is the coldest, deadliest, hardest and most badass pony warrior ever to have trotted upon the soils of Equestria.
And this is the Rarity I have sought to capture in my painting.
I imagine that this portrait of Revenge Rarity was taken in the midst of her exploits during the game. Perhaps this image captures her between levels. In DOOM, the pause between one level and the next is always brief, but also always timeless.
She sits waiting, for however long, to return to the fray.
Nothing else matters, she wants her Sweetie Belle, and her friends back, and every Changeling between her and them is going to pay the ultimate price.
She regards us with a gaze that is not an indication that she is about to pounce on us. More, she challenges us to explain why are anything of consequence to her. Us humans, with our frailties, baggage, damage, resentments and grievances. In the face of her dilemma, and her task, how flippant and trivial we all seem. Is there anything we wanted to say? Or can we get back to the fight now?
All the hardness and violence of any Pony Creepypasta is here, with interest. But there is none of the hesitation, self hatred and psychological dissonance that we've come to expect from Creepypasta Ponies. Rarity's focus, singlness of purpose and willingness to fight are a molecular blade that will slice wide open anything that gets in range.
DOOMGUY and Pinkie Pie, as we've come to know them in my recent fan fic are merely a pair of love birds by comparison, and they should go get a room.
Right and wrong, good and evil, honor or war crimes, all of these considerations are irrelevant to Revenge Rarity, she wants her family and friends back. And yes, I can report that eventually Revenge Rarity achieves her goal quite successfully, rescuing both the Mane 6 and Sweetie Belle, while also finally serving Queen Chrysalis the punishment she always deserved but never really suffered.
Of course, the game ends with a twist that is entirely appropriate for the story it has told, and for a DOOM mod in general.
Play the mod.
After I did, there was no question of not making this painting.
