It is not coming to a bad end. The Monolith has determined that ponies are no threat, but this is the least interesting of its conclusions. Ponies have a far above average ability to empathize with those who are different. Ponies feel for strangers and enemies as much as they feel for themselves. Most civilizations that make it even as far as the ponies, have long since set compassion aside. Pony civilization has not adopted game theory and has not collapsed itself into payoff matrices. Ponies expand and innovate slowly, and do not necessarily disregard the needs of individuals in the name of the collective. Such a civilization will never threaten anyone. But there is also the matter of the ponies' magic. Generally speaking, magic is just an artifact of an incomplete understanding of nature. Most of the species whom the Monolith evaluates are stuck in one error or another. But pony magic does seem to lend itself to the very evolution and transcendence which the Monolith is programmed to foster. The ponies are no mere novelty, they are exceptional. And further, there does seem to be something very unique about the seven ponies and their dragon friend to whom the Monolith had revealed itself. Therefore, the ponies and the dragon will be transported for further evaluation. Even entering the Stargate seemed to trigger some kind of magical change, for the ponies have shifted their form. If nothing else it is something for the Monolith to study along the way.
