Detailed Personality

King Sombra is not the pony to be trifled with. He has a short fuse, and an explosive temper to go with it. He is as arrogant as he is cruel, and somewhat flamboyant. Many ponies believe that his heart and soul are as black as a night with no moons or stars- if he even has a heart or soul at all.

This king hungers for power, and will stop at nothing to have his empire under his hoof.

King Sombra is a fully educated stallion, though his powerful dark magic was entirely self taught.

Detailed History

King Sombra was found as a cold by soldiers of the Crystal Empire, outside in the frigid north near a red crystal spire. He was raised in an orphanage, though was never adopted. The other foals often teased, mocked, and bullied him for his strange, unknown past. One filly, a unicorn crystal pony named Radiant Hope, befriended him, and told him of pixies, fairies, and strange imaginary friends. They played their own games, spoke in their own languages, and told each other everything.

This cheerful, innocent colt then began to set on a dark path when he was shown the crystal heart. He was excited to see it, and excited to see his first crystal fair. Upon hearing the legend that one could see their future in the heart, he looked and saw something that would haunt him until he found out his origins. He saw a shadow, a monster, evil and cruel in his own reflection. Trying to push the thoughts out of his mind, he played with Hope and prepared himself for the crystal fair, but when that accursed day came, the little colt had to be hospitalized. He writhed in agony, unable to move. All he could think of was the pain, no matter how much Radiant Hope tried to help him.

Time passed, and Sombra grew from a colt, into a stallion. He hadn't gotten a cutie mark, but he did get forced into ceaseless pain every crystal fair. One year, it almost killed him, but he was saved by Hope's healing abilities. Shortly after this, Radiant Hope was summoned by princess Celestia to be a student after her, and Sombra knew his frightening destiny would be soon upon him. Out of desperation and fear, he fled out of the empire and to the frozen north where he found the bright red crystal spire he was first found near.

The crystalline structure was an umbrum-made construct, a way for Sombra's umbrum mother to communicate with him. He was told of his origin, of his species, and so he decided to take his horrific destiny and embrace it. He ended Princess Amore's reign, and took over as the feared and tyrannical ruler which filled so many with fear.
