BoC: The Hive

The Hive-mind Changelings have a mental connection to their Queen, often referred to as 'hive-mind'. This connection allows their Queen to forcefully drain their love, give love she has collected or pass on knowledge. She can create visions in the minds of her subject, given that they are still part of the hive-mind. Changelings still have a mind of their own, a personality, ideas, individuality. But it is overshadowed by the wishes and the feeling of their Queen, which makes them a very loyal species. A changeling can reject this connection and henceforth does no longer count as member of the hive, by Chrysalis's definition. Hiveless Changelings Once a changeling is hive-less or without a hive-mind (like the reformed changelings) they lose the ability to receive knowledge from their Queen, furthermore their emotions become stronger, which makes it easier to accept alternate life styles. Without the connection to their Queen changelings are more curious, easier to manipulate, more emotional and usually more confused because they have to figure out a purpose for themselves. Chrysalis has made it tradition that changelings who reject the hive-mind or leave the hive are banished and no longer welcome at the hive, they are treated as intruder and traitors. There are only three known cases in which changelings have actually left the hive, the most known one being Thorax and his followers.
