Fans use Machine Learning to HD Remaster Final Fantasy VII
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BJEzSnDlaAY
Basically, they're using AI image upscalers to enhance the textures in the game. Imagine if they did that for games like Smash Bros 64 and Melee
I know the N64 and GC/Wii likely wouldn't be able to handle higher resolution textures on the games for their consoles, but emulators should be less affected. Project64K and Dolphin are what their players use to play online anyways. It'd be great to see HD versions of these games without having to change art styles nor wait for Nintendo to make remakes that'll never happen
Take a look and see the improvement for yourself from a sample anime screenshot

This image enhancement could also be done for ancient animes as well. It'd be simple. Just convert the video file to a jpg sequence, enhance each picture, put the sequence in a video editor, use the original video's audio for the project's audio, and render it as any video file type. Remaster complete
It might also be useful for low-res art too
