Odds are you are here for the following reasons: You were linked here by me to understand why tracing is bad. You found this on the newest/top feed when i first posted it. You found this randomly some other way, either way you're here and this is about tracing, references, and stealing art and how it effects you, this website, artists, and more.

Referencing, Tracing, Theft are all three different things that are covered in this blog, but they all come together in one way or another. Artists are all different and you should always link back to the original piece if the artist allows, always get permission.
--
Referencing
Referencing is like eyeballing and looking at a picture for help on an original drawing. It is highly encouraged to reference actual photographs, stock, and public domain to help your art. When referencing an original picture, please do get the artist's permission before posting or drawing. Many will say it's okay as long as it's not heavily referenced, or some artists will say already in their description or profile to not reference, and please respect that. This is a less punishable offense, but if the artist does request a take down the admins and mods will review it.

Tracing
Tracing is directly drawing over a picture, this processes should only be used for practice and should not be posted. Many artists do not allow others tracing their art, you can ask permission but they will most likely say no, or do not post it. Tracing can only help your art so far, so expanding to referencing is highly encouraged. Posted traced art goes under theft and is punishable the same.

Theft
Art theft is reposting art and not giving credit, even if you say "I didn't draw this" or you don't say you drew it, it's still theft. CA's Canadian copyright policy can be seen in my reposting art blog linked below. If you claim the art is your's and it's found otherwise, that is punishable.

Crediting
Credit by CA's standards is to link back to the original artist, this means the artist's DeviantART, FurAffinity, ArtStation, etc page. Just a simple link in the comments or the description of the picture is good. Credit is NOT "I found it on google", "credit to the artist", "i commissioned this from someone" it's a link back to the page.
