Days ago, he shared an interesting conversation with an old man who dropped a folder into his office like he'd found the dig-site for the Holy Grail. Photos of blurry night-time imagery, of... driftwood? A funky shaped tree protruding from the water? A fat swan? The poor photography skills combined with the clearly ancient camera made it hard to see just exactly what he was supposed to be focusing on. Thankfully, the old man was there to correct him, as well as provide a map to this creature’s supposed dwelling— a half-submerged cave off the coast that connected the oceans and rivers— all based purely on some marine biologist mumbo jumbo couldn’t quite get. Something about the currents, the fish population pointing toward a predator and then like. In short: a monster. A water monster, no less. No hydras or kappas or anything of the like, but a seapony that *wasn't* a seapony. A lady in the water, changed and mutated either by radiation or nature's cruel, warped sense of humor. ...At least, that was what the old man explained. If anyone else were in the room with Gumshoe, they'd clearly see a look of doubt plastered on his whiskers and brow. But... the old man had a hefty sum. One worth scoping out the joint for a couple nights since the old man's front-fee was enough to cover a hotel not too far from that very cave. A couple miles at best. Finding Nimue would rattle the scientific community, my dear boy! Think: a common link between ponies and fish that have gone undiscovered for possibly millennium! If you find proof of her, I can justify sending a team to capture her. Then, we become gods of science!... The memory of the other day played fresh in his mind while he stared into the mouth of the water-home of this supposed "Nimue" with a bucket of fish chum protectively at his side. The fetid stench of minced up fish nearly him puke with each inhale, but he had a strong stomach. He had to in order to stick with some of the more unpleasant aspects of his career. The haunting echo of his footsteps left little ease in his tired mind. Shadows moved to taunt him. Further back, he could see water, likely where this “Nimue” swam. All of this for documentation, to prove he were doing all that was necessary. Much like congratulating Saturn on his soon-to-be stage of fatherhood, searching for "Nimue" was the most lost of causes. At least he could look forward to a shower and bed rest after.
