Part 3, Rosa
Preamble

It's probably been awhile since life disturbed Rosa Cavalier. After her efforts to stave off the Warped three months ago, nothing of note has happened on that front. Seafoam should be glad for the gracious transition period. Of course there was the stated mare's disintegration, an event which in remedying made the pair into blood sisters. Said event aside, Rosa has been left to her own devices in life as she kept the world at a comfortable distance. Her new anchors, Alexander and Seafoam, kept her grounded in their own ways. One gave her a reason to keep going, while the other tied an immutable sense of presence to the larger world. The two Blood Tied mares could feel the other existing, their shared blood only strengthening that line. Rosa could observe the present Huntress grow from afar, sometimes even knowing her location with great concentration. That presence gradually grew as Seafoam practiced her various abilities, doubtless on the road to mastery in record time for a Huntress. The presence could assure Rosa that her choice was correct, and the title lay in good hooves.

Something different was happening tonight. The Blood Tie was... taut. Just last night the Tie was incrementally growing as usual, Seafoam was a diligent mare. But it suddenly doubled in strength, while still feeling like the same pony she knew. As though a fresh pair of hooves gripped their unusual line and added her strength. At her end Rosa could discern the ebb and flow of one strength overtaking another for a moment, then waning only to be compensated by the other. Out there in the distance, something really weird was happening to Seafoam But Seafoam at least felt ok. There was a silent quality - a way of peering into the Tie that let each mare know whether the other was in peril or not. This quality held normal, even with this unusual activity. Did Seafoam find some way to -- split or double her soul? Then something truly terrible ripped into being. An enormous presence that nearly pulled Rosa's mind from her body with its sudden presence. Distinct, but familiar, Rosa could not know what it was, or where it had come from. But she could feel one thing drilling through her: It was Seafoam. A terrifying, titanic soul which harbored some part of that mare. And after a moment to recuperate, she could sense that it broadcast one message. It was coming for them.

She hadn't seen this pony since their rushed "goodbye" three months ago, and that was three painful months too long to see her mentor. The larger, more rational part of her mind knew Rosa meant no disrespect, but the small part, currently terrified of her predicament, to be seen as 'other' by Rosa... The splint went practically unnoticed by The Huntress, by the time she was standing her overwhelming impulses to hunt or flee from the Warped Seafoam took precident. Instinctually she recognized the blood cast that eased the pain she just caused herself, but she could not take the time to marvel at Rosa's mastery of Blood Magic Seafoam still held onto some higher function through the dizzying adrenaline and vampiric instinct. She knew that Rosa wouldn't take the news of a sentient Warped lying down... Neither was Seafoam at present. But the insight Rosa had into the Warped, Seafoam cast parts of a curious glance at her mentor's knowledge. Their shared literature rarely went to such detail, and a differal to Rosa's greater knowledge now became the only thing stopping her from flying to this Warped for round two. And now Rosa confronted something Seafoam could not allow herself to think about. Why would a Seafoam lose her way, and accept such a dark fate? The mare grit her teeth, standing in defiance to this line of thought. Seafoam was not evil, and would never allow her soul to become Warped! It was-- not just impossible, it was not part of her nature! "But we must stop her, Rosa! She seeks prey in Equestria, you must feel her intent." The Huntress bordered on a snarl, bubbling from a deep, boiling insult within. Such outrage that it began shielding her from reason, or seeing Rosa's insight. There were important questions to ask, indeed. But-- the unforgivable trespass of Warped into her soul?.. "We cannot stand by as she attacks. You won't have it, neither will I!" Now she fully bared her teeth, stubborn and prideful determination to never stop fighting to oppose evil. The Huntress simply will not be outdone by some invader, certainly not a Warped! What was the point of sensing her exact location by the Compass, if not to strike? Rosa should spot Sway's return, rushing back with a hefty box of medical supplies. He carried the item with his teeth, which was perhaps curious given the wealth of strength he possessed as a unicorn. Not something to ponder at this time however. He practically slid to a stop beside the mares and set the large box on the ground, immediately speaking, and covering the same ground Rosa already tread. "Seafoam, what happened? Are you--" He looked at the blood cast, and simply moved on from his question. "Where's Seafoam? We were just getting... to know her... and..." Seafoam wasn't listening, already digging into the medical supplies with clear intent. She tossed aside any gauze, medical tape, syringes, splint impliments, then yanked out a 1-pint blood bag and sunk her teeth hurriedly into it. She shot Rosa a knowing look, then disappeared into the shadows with the blood bag. What recklessness! Rosa could sense Seafoam moving with all haste to the third Seafoam, undaunted by the threat, or too blind to see how outclassed she was.

There was one more lesson Seafoam needed to learn, and that was the lesson of knowing when a battle was not meant to be won. Simply because a battle isn't the war, just a part of it. The biggest annoyance to her was Seafoam's lack of self preservation. Here one moment and injured, then off elsewhere and injured. Vampirism is a powerful thing to have, but even with a fresh feast healing isn't quite instantaneous. Especially not a limb damaged so badly. In this state, she would surely face defeat, and without support, who's to say she doesn't fall into that same void as the imposter? To become the exact thing you promised to face? Taking the life of three Seafoam's and dealing with the fallout of Sway finding out was more than she desired to deal with. Rosa had her own damn responsibilities. And intent or not, her own intent was buried deep under the layers of coldness she'd built over the centuries. To Chiller Sway, she held no change in physical emotion. On his return, she'd simply look to him and shake her head. "I do not know who is the child, you or her." She'd step back, and drag the talon of her wing into the dirt, drawing a circle around herself. Then, she'd begin marking different symbols along the edge. Most of which a Zebraic language that was hard to translate. That language seemed to be all she needed to perform her next skill. She couldn't "warp" anywhere else, and she could use shadows, but... Well, the only sign that she was annoyed was the fact she was willing to do this. A magical skill that most would find horrific. Not blood, not dark magic, nor necrotic magic... It was something else. "I do not plan on training another pony after this. I will find Seafoam, and bring her back...with hope. This mare is going to be her own death if she continues to walk the broken paths ahead." She'd stomp her hoof on each symbol, then the one in the center. The ground would shake, and she'd close her eyes in expectation. To Sway, he'd see a horrific shadowy-skeleton hand of a dragon reach out of the ground. It was easily three times Rosa's size, and grab onto her. "Only room for one." It would sink down underground....Destination? Well, Seafoam's, destination. It was a one-time use...and would take years to rebuild.

Seafoam looked bewildered at Rosa's maneuver, not understanding why she needed to be stopped and not the Warped incarnate they faced. Well, she did understand that Rosa wanted her to fall back and think of literally any plan at all. She assumed incorrectly that Rosa would just adapt to Seafoam charging in and taking the Warped's attention. It... goes to show how poorly she thought this out. She could barely think at all with this Warped's mind-crushing presence in Equestria! She needed to get from under its weight, its enormity, the muscle-seizing terror every Huntress instinct screamed on overdrive. The Warped did not wait for Rosa to improvise something else to get Seafoam away. Her own implement now wrapped securely around Seafoam as well, then dug roots into the ground to hold The Huntress in place. Seafoam fought viciously against her bindings for a short while as the Warped responded to Rosa's rare anger. Her velvet voice held as she voiced her own frustration. "You hold the same flaw through time, sister. I will be subject to it no more!" The words may have been cryptic, but her intent would prove just as difficult to decipher. She harbored real adversarial intent toward Rosa, yet also a longing for sisterly bond. Something must have driven a wedge between this vampire and the Rosa in her home dimension. Being Warped somehow, for one. Was it by choice? "Don't you dare talk to her like that!" Seafoam lashed out at the Warped. It was... an unusually crass way for her to speak, but she's under an extraordinary amount of stress. The more frustrated she became, the more she focused on one thought: Kill the Warped. The sooner they stopped this thing, the sooner she'd be free from her terror. The Warped closed the distance between herself and Seafoam with a fanged snarl pointed at Rosa. Without revealing herself, she paid special attention to Rosa's end of the Tie for her emotional response to these things. She has plenty experience reading into the statue's real emotions, while Rosa has never had to hide them in this way. Rosa's hidden emotions exposed to such an adversary? Why it's rather unfair, I'd say~
