I am proud of my family. We are not related by blood, but by bloody experience.
My son and I once traversed Equestria as nomads, fed by strangers as favors or acts of goodwill. I taught him everything he could learn, and he showed me the compassion and strength only a family member could provide. That is why his wife's hesitation confuses me.

"H-how can she be the same pony? Like you?" I am serving tea to Lemon in the living room while Seafoam is reviewing vampire literature with Sway in my bedroom.
This is one of the few questions she's asked tonight.
I suppose it troubles her greatly. "We are the same mare. Same memories, same experiences, and patterns of thought. No changeling could replicate a pony so precisely. And Sway would know the difference between myself and a fake. I am quite certain of that." Shen has been utilizing my back as a platform to amuse herself. She jumps up and down as I pour Lemon's tea, proclaiming through her usual vocal slur:
"And, I get two grandmas!" "Okay," Lemon hesitates, hardly assuaged. "I-if you say so, Seafoam." I see her wince.
Perhaps I've made a minute expression. Or, no, it is my lack of approval. "I do." Now she is uncomfortable. I draw a patient breath and try again.
"The details... Sway will help with that. But I know for certain she has my memories, and more importantly, my instincts. Instinct is... not something to be imitated, Lemon. They are part of me."
Placing a hoof on her shoulder only makes her tense. I don't understand... What is she so afraid of?
"Please, have some tea."

"Nothing in here." The message was more for Sway than I. These volumes contain no record of other universes coming together. "She says these books won't have anything about what's going on with you two." Sway scratches behind an ear, preparing to ask what I want to do.
"I dunno. You two have read these front to back several times, I'm sure. If you also think we should stop searching here... Hmm... Don't you think it might be worth asking the princess?" Seafoam and I exchange apprehensive looks. "Okay, okay, you're not supposed to talk to them." Sway moves on after a small exhale. He's starting to pick up on our non-verbal communication, which I appreciate with some humor.
"There's the legendary Starswirl the Bearded library. The royal archives... I know there's a type of portal under the crystal castle... Twilight would know the most about this, you know." He concludes, affixing me a with look. "The princesses are not available. Only in dire circumstances." Seafoam reminds him. "Well then... mmph. I wish you guys weren't so stubborn..." He lifts the volumes to return in storage with his hooves. "Best that lets me do is theorize. She-- sorry, you could be from another dimension, sure. You'd think that would mean she could use Rovina, but I guess that's not how your soul stuff works."
He shrugs while placing the first volumes away with Seafoam, leaving me to ponder the situation. Sway really wants to ask the princess if he's taking this long to defer to me. "Could be a test from Rosa." Neither of us react to the jab. Rosa is a mare of many things. I do not understand the nature of her tests, but this is not one Rosa would administer. She would not endanger another world to the Warped. Besides, we... Seafoam shifts uncomfortably. ... are cut off from her. Sway continues. "Ugh what would you learn from meeting yourself anyway? That you're the best pony for the job? No, there's gotta be more than that..." Placing a hoof on his back, I direct him at the doorway to the rest of our family.
"It's alright, Sway, I appreciate your help. I've awoken you late in the night. Talk to Lemon and Shen a moment as I speak with Seafoam here." Sway gives me a look that questions our need to 'talk' verbally. His thoughts draw a smile from me, a rare sight indeed. "Yes, with words." "Heh, if you say so. Boy, what a night, eh?"

We are left to ourselves.
A comfortable feeling of oneness fills the room. My living space. Our one bedroom of the house. She knows these four corners well as I.
She's looking at 'Wave Crasher'. In another lifetime it was our trusted blade, now it rests mounted against the wall. "Take it. Seafoam should not be unarmed." She smiles and retrieves the blade, strapping it to her shoulder the way we've done countless times. "Thank you." She says and performs a curtsy for me. I smile and return the gesture.
If only to keep us from repeatedly bowing all night, I ask what's on my mind. "Would you stargaze with me? I would appreciate company that can... feel it as I do." "Lead the way, Huntress." She says my title with a playful smirk. While around each other she has decided to be Seafoam, while I am the Huntress. I catch myself from rolling my eyes and exit the room with a small chuckle instead. Our family is arranged in the living room. Shen is a bundle of energy amisdt Sway and Lemon battling sleep on the couch. Even without any leads, they don't want to disappoint us in these idle hours.
Sway watches Shen scurry between Seafoam and I's legs, treating us as some obstacle course. "We'd hate to miss a chance for stargazing. Just tonight, while things are calm." I explain, allowing him to settle with his wife again. "Oh. Yeah I get it. Shen, if you're going out with them, just come inside when they ask you to. Okay?" "Oooh! Okay daddy!" Shen responds excitedly, her sentence faster than usual. To that Sway nods and curls up against his wife, who only spares us a glance.
Something is bothering her. I'll receive that answer in time. "Come along, Shen."

"Grandma? Does second grandma... have... another... second Shen?" "Yes, I do." Seafoam replies gently to the foal. "She is just like you, little one. What do you think of that?" "Ohh." Shen chews at a hoof, her way of signaling 'Shen big think' mode.
"I think... why not bringing her?" Enormous doe eyes draw out a mirthy giggle from Seafoam. It is a sound we only make for little Shen. "If I brought her, your mother would be up to her mane with you two! Imagine one filly stalking the grass, and another pouncing upon everypony she sees! We would need two mothers." Now Shen giggles, hopping into the grass herself and disappearing in their blades. We don't know how she does it, her hybrid biology must be half predator. Seafoam and I look to each other to decide if Shen should go inside. The filly is alot to handle, and we would hate to lose track of her while stargazing. We answer a few more questions. She wants to know if we both love her, and forgot which Seafoam was 'her' Seafoam. She hugs us just the same, comparing fangs before scampering indoors. "We are lucky to have her." "Yes, we are." "Should we show her Rovina?" "No. Let her keep the innocence she has." "It would simplify things. We could learn about her. Where she comes from." "She is content with her parents, and should not relive her nightmares. I want to let her move on." "As do I."
