The birds chirpe... View More"Seafoam! Seafoam dear, tell Fire Star that dinner is ready!" A soothing mother's voice beckoned in her dreams. Tidal waves bellowed and rolled against the sands she once called home. The birds chirped within the trees inland, the orbital sun warmed the air for play while a mare and a colt play chase, Seafoam and Fire Star respectively, both without a care in the world. Perhaps it'd only seem odd that Seafoam was her adult self in this foalhood dream, but the Dream Realm takes any shape we may conjure. "Seafoam!" A blissful call, exceeding the enjoyment of playing alongside the colt. Seafoam dreamily stopped in her tracks and looked to her mother with a smile. "Ok mother! Come on Fi, mother wants us to come in." Fi. The uh.... The nickname she gave to that colt! The little orange and red colt with the grin on his muzzle. There's something off about him... something stressful. "Yeah, yeah, but what if we played just one more time?" "Fi, come along. Mother wants us inside for dinner." "Just one more?" Memory trickled in. He was always weird about listening to other ponies. There was this one time he borrowed a shell from another filly in the village, and he pretended not to know where it was until parents got involved. As soon as they did he produced the shell and never spoke a word about it again. The adults didn't assume much of it, because he would grow out of the habit with age... "Come on Fi. Mother wants us in." "Seafoam Noticus Wake. It's been some time since you visited the Dream Realm." Seafoam abruptly paused as she looked behind her in a bit of confusion. Her mind was still in a dreamy haze, but she knew the pony visiting her was not the night princess. Distinctly stallion, snow coated and grey maned, a rare species she recognized. "Fire... Moon..." Seafoam tripped over her words, how does she distinguish individuals in this species again? "Does time stretch distant for you tonight? I am Yara Tail, Ms. Wake. Pure, and overseer for the maiden 6 hours of your test." Seafoam's slitted eyes gazed at the pony in front of her. The words sunk in over a couple of seconds while she brought her mind out of sleep. Alert now, the mare bowed and let the dream fuzzily play out behind her. "My apologies Yara. I sought to relax tonight and let down my guard." For a moment things were silent between them. Seafoam knew she was being studied and scrutinized, yet knew not to speak out of turn and attempted to relax herself before him. It didn't help. "But you appear tense. What are you hiding from us?" "D**." The vampony thought to herself. These ponies always saw right through her. Never a point to hide anything from this species... "I cannot answer." Silence fell again. She knew this wasn't a good sign. Give these ponies a couple seconds to think and they'll surprise you like a supercomputer playing chess. "What can you answer?" Yara asked with respect. Seafoam didn't hide secrets easily, and he could hear her tone was sincere. "I am..." Seafoam hesitated, racing her mind to think of what words to use. How much he'll be able to extrapolate from a sentence alone, every word and intonation will never be forgotten after she says it. It burns her to hide secrets from him, and a species that gave her so much. But she must pass everything through Rosa Cavalier beforehoof to avoid a mishap. Therein complicates secrets further, but it's a thought process she can't distract herself with now. Seconds ticked past. Holding her bow, Seafoam was nearly breaching into panic. She had been so preoccupied with herself and getting prepared that she failed to consider this encounter. What could she say? How could she have neglected her previous masters? What will Rosa think about this? Focus Seafoam, focus. Yara is being incredibly patient right now, and Seafoam needs to come up with a response, don't crack under pressure. Don't say the first thing that comes to your mind, think about his questions right now. You look different, you haven't slept in over a week, but you're supposed to be in retirement. So what can you answer him? "There have been changes. This is my new body. My mind can be pushed further without sleep. I did not reach out to you because I am training myself to use this form effectively." Her sentence trailed off in a weird way. She wanted to continue by saying that they couldn't possibly train her, but that would imply there's somepony else who could, and she doesn't want to give that away. "Let me see what these changes are soon." He could have asked her to demonstrate here in the Dream Realm, but decided against it due to the Dream Realm. While she's getting used to this new body her subconscious will make assumptions that will differ to her real world counterpart. But he didn't say 'soon' without meaning. He could have said 'someday' instead, but never doubt his species' curiosity. "Yes sir." "You may rise, Ms. Wake. Your apology was accepted." Following his command Seafoam stood tall again and looked him in the eyes. She was still being studied, though there was no use in asking more questions. There was only this to say: "We have faith you will bring us pride in your endeavors, Guard." It will take some time for Seafoam to understand, but his word choice of 'faith' instead of 'trust' was an important distinction. She's been out of the Clan for the latter half of her life at this point, and it's possible she's not the pony they once knew her to be, even despite a 'recent' visitation. They didn't meld with her on that occasion, so there are several questions out in the air. Furthermore calling her Guard was to bring attention to this title, hoping she hasn't forgotten her place of honor that she toiled to earn. "Sway remembers the spell to call out to us, correct?" "My colt does remember the spell, yes sir." Yara bowed, and Seafoam didn't miss the beat to return the bow and release it at the same time with him. Holding eye contact again, the stallion ignited his red magic to create a bright white portal behind himself. "Until we meet again, Seafoam Wake." Having no reason to delay, Yara turned back and walked into the portal he created, closing it behind himself and leaving Seafoam to her thoughts. Her and Rosa need to talk. And she anticipates Rosa won't be pleased to hear about it.
