A royal blue mare complained as she lay her head on the cool glass surface of the table, taking relief in the shade of an umbrella while another flowery mare sat across from her, sipping from an absurdly tropical looking drink. Ponies had always claimed the flower ponies shared similar traits even across the races, and it seemed that at least when it came to heat tolerance that much was true. Though the Ponyville native had clearly more experience in dealing with the sun than her recent acquaintance, a sunhat and a sharp pair of heart-shaped sunglasses seemed to help in keeping the heat off.
"Oh come off it Glory, you're over-reacting. It's not that bad. Just do something with your mane for once. All that hair is keeping you from cooling off because your dark colors just soak up the sun." She tried to advise the wilting blue mare whose mane hung limply across her neck and back, the small yellow flowers that normally gave it a whimsical look also suffering from the heat.
"Peony you know I can't do that," she whined as she levitated the straw from her half melted ice water to her lips.
"Right, right. The whole 'unicorn magic makes your mane grow' thing. I swear, that's one of the stupidest downsides I've ever heard. I've only met a hoof-full of unicorns who have that problem." The pink hued mare shook her head as she lifted a portion of the mare's mane in her free hoof. "At least let me tie it up for you, so it's not on your neck all day."
"I'll think about it," Glory mumbled as she continued sipping her water. "I can't do any more research until the heatwave passes anyway, so I'll be around town for a bit. Maybe Daisy or Roseluck will have some time for us to meet up again. I heard she's got a stallion now." She tried to change the subject forcefully to keep her mind off the heat.
"That's just her off again on again relationship with that one stallion who travels the world. I'll see if she can introduce you at the next meetup; we're planning to do a dinner at Daisy's soon. You planning on bringing anypony or is the resident herbalist still only interested in the pollination of her plants?" She asked with a smirk, eybrow raised in playful mockery.
"I've only come to town for resupply so far, and hardly stay more than an hour, Peony. When would I have had the time to meet somepony besides the postal mare or the griffin deli clerk. And as much as we get along well, he's old enough to be my *dad*."
"What about them?" Peony asked as she pointed a hoof in the direction of another cafe guest behind Glory, forcing the blue mare to raise herself up to look around. She didn't recognize them, not that that was surprising to herself since she'd hardly interacted with most of the ponies besides the ones who shared in her field of work.
"Am I supposed to know who that is?"
"No but you will in a minute-" Peony waved to the other guest trying to get their attention to join their table while Glory put her hoof to her forehead, rubbing just below her horn as she questioned her choice in friends. #rp
