Cat's out of the bag, not really. One doesn't participate in Equestria's most popular beauty pageant and go unnoticed, no matter how early they're eliminated. Vanil, under influence, managed to participate in Miss Equestria beauty pageant. Her mother paid her a visit the day after to congratulate her daughter in getting such a high rating in early rounds. Vanil wanted to tell her mother the truth, but Aimée's words of encouragement and support made it all the more difficult to cough it up. If she can't tell the truth, then she thought it was better to forfeit, seeing as sober Vanil has 0 experience on the runway. Then of course...she said it. "Do you really want to throw in the towel and add to the list of things you never see through?" that question struck a nerve and for a moment, she snapped. Aimée was absolutely correct. She'd been bouncing from one job or lifestyle to another, but she never did commit to any of them, not since [REDACTED]. A good time to break down into tears, it was. After a good deal of reflecting, a decision was made: Vanil La Roux will go through with the pageant, win or lose!
And so she joined in whatever category this competition required, which included (//and I forgive the lack of embellishment to suit an actual model. Use your imagination for better effect. Also apologies for redundancy of many words) :

And of course, following anime rules, the categories finished with a beach episode:

Judges rated her mediocre throughout, stating that she obviously has no experience for modelling and her taste in fashion could be better. However, what she lacked in time to prepare herself to match the figure and mindset of a model, she made it up with luck. That is correct. It would aplear that Vanil was a fan-favourite, with her average public votes elevating with each passing category. It quickly became apparent that the younger audience of this generation enjoy seeing the noticeable tone on this otherwise plain redhead. It's comical, really.
Miss Canterlot made it to the finals and was set to compete with 4 other finalists for the title. Will she be up for the challenge and go toe-to-toe with the kingdom's best? Can she compensate her single-coloured mane and coat to compete against competitors having every colour of the rainbow on their hooves, and then some? Find out in the next episode of- never mind she was disqualified, and not for the lack of trying, or that she decked the horndog of a judge when he got a bit too touchy-feely. The "dense" - or so Vanil calls it - pageant higher-ups eventually found out she's no 'spring chicken', and that she's above the age limit by 1 year. That's right, the age limit for contestants is 27, with 28 being the retiring age for titleholders. Maybe they were aware the entire time, yet chose to let it be, perhaps since this is the most successful their show had ever got, with their viewership skyrocketting ever since this -out of place- mare participated. She couldn't win though, the storm that follow should she wear the tiara might devastate them. They might even have to increase the age limit by one year, and that takes a 'lot' of resources. Not that it mattered; if she did stay in the competition, she'd lose because spoiler alert: whoever wore Rarity's dress wins, and deservingly so.
The bitterness of defeat. Now that's a feeling that brings you back, doesn't it? The tears, the lump in your throat, the rapid sequences of what could've been flashing through your brain till it overloads. But, something's different, this time. This time, she's going to open herself up to heal. It's going to take a while, and boy is it going to hurt along the way, but she'll live, as she always have. The commitment isn't done until she's over it and moves on.
She'll see this one through...
