Phoenix's blade glinted in the moon light as he sat in the tall oak tree but it was not the blade of his scimitar, This blade was far more dangerous. Despite being smaller. It was a beautifully crafted dagger, A well balanced blade and a sturdy handle. One could hardly blame the pegasus for picking it up even if picking it up was a grave mistake. It was odd, he had found the dagger in a small little cave that a small wyvern was using as a den. He smiled softly as he remembered the battle he had fought against the large reptile. That was certainly one hell of a fighting. That's what he lived for, battle. The feeling of taking a worthy opponent on in one on one combat and then watching as the blood dripped from them and life left their eyes! No that didn't sound right. He had gotten off topic again. What had he been thinking about? Right! The dagger. It was obviously magical, Phoenix had seen a few magical weapons in his day and the shimmering purple energy that ran along the blade was a dead give away. It certainly was a beautiful weapon. No! It was talking to him again. Phoenix took a deep breathe and tried to concentrate. This thing was bad news. Ever since he had picked it up something had started speaking to him. It promised strength, Power but most appealing to Phoenix it promised fights. Good ones too but the stallion hardly trusted whatever magic was in the dagger. It was asking for his body. It was asking him to give up everything so he could experience the high of non stop combat and adrenaline. Phoenix was not seriously considering that offer but still....It was damn hard to put this thing down.
"What has the world given you?" Phoenix thought for a moment "I have family" He said as he chuckled "A boy and a freak. That's all you have left" Phoenix said as he let out a low growl "Shut it. You don't know anything about them. They care about me. I care about them" Phoenix didn't even notice that he seemed to be arguing with himself "Do they? The child depends on you. He knows you'll sacrifice for him and he's using you and the witcher he sees you as an annoyance. He is stronger than you, more powerful. He only tolerates you" Phoenix narrowed his eyes "You say one more word about them and I'll melt you into slag" He said as he broke out into laughter "Everyone seems to want something from you Phoenix and when they have it. They'll abandon you. Just like Iris did" This made phoenix yell in rage as the dagger began to glow a dark purple "So you want to use me? To kill who ever you like?" Phoenix said with a scoff "Go eat shit!" He yelled as he dropped the dagger. Suddenly he heard a voice from below the tree branch he was sitting on "Dad? Are you ok?" His eyes widened as he looked down. Seeing the dagger glow brighter as it fell closer to his son "What is...?" Burning was cut off by the hilt of the dagger landing on his head.
The dagger discharged a burst of energy as it hit the colt. Burning was sent flying into the tree and slumped against the ground shortly after "Burning!" Phoenix immediately dropped down from the tree "No no no" He said as he began to panic. He checked the limp body of his child and luckily he found a pulse. He sighed in relief and picked the boy up "It's alright. I've got you" He said softly as he quickly began flying through the forest "Dad will get you home and you'll be alright" He said as he clutched his son to his chest "I'm sorry Burning. Please wake up. I'm really sorry. I...I didn't know you were there" He said as he zipped through the trees as fast as he could, dodging and weaving in between the trees as he went. Suddenly one of the trees fell down in front of him which caused him to have to stop for a moment. He was panting heavily as he took a quick look around. Just when he was about to start flying again he was swatted in the back by a massive feline paw. When he looked up a manticore stood in front of him. He snarled and set Burning down. He was tired and out of breathe but he the life of his son was on the line here. He had to win.
Phoenix took slash after slash, blood dripping down his body. Luckily he was giving better than he got and the manticore had large slash and stab wounds on it. No doubt it would go down soon but that last slash on the right shoulder had been a damn good one. It was getting tough to pick his sword up and he was extremely tired. Phoenix let out a deep, shaky breathe as he rose to his hooves once more. He narrowed his eyes at the beast "You picked the wrong day to screw around with me" He grumbled as he began to think of his son. He couldn't fail. He had to win and so no matter what happened he would keep fighting until he did. Phoenix yelled in rage and mustered everything he could for one last charge at the manticore. The large beast tried to stomp on him with it's paw but using a boost from his wings, Phoenix managed to leap out of the way. He then flapped his wings and shot towards the manticore, Stabbing the point of his blade into the top of the creature's neck. With a few desperate gasps for air the thing fell over and died. Bloodied, beaten and tired Phoenix shambled over to his son and picked the boy up.
