"You're a warrior with no war to fight" The mare said with a sigh as she looked at the stallion "That's what you're feeling" The blue unicorn stated as she brushed her orange mane out of her face. Phoenix looked at his hooves with a grimace "It isn't my fault....I...I just get a bit bored" The young pegasus said weakly. He knew she was right. Why was he such an idiot? He always screwed these things up. The unicorn frowned at him "I can't be with you. I want a life outside of battle, outside of violence but violence is the only thing that seems to make you happy. Outside of fighting you get cold and distant and I can't seem to make you feel much of anything" Phoenix narrowed his eyes at his hooves. No matter how many times this happened it never stopped hurting. Why couldn't he have just talked with her more? Made her feel loved? He had failed, failed her and he hated it "I'm not some heartless machine!" He growled "You're certainly making me feel something right now" The mare scoffed "Pain right? and let me guess you'd rather go out and get into another bar fight then actually trying to talk it out. You're only here right now because I made you come and talk to me" Phoenix turned and slowly began walking down the path back into town "See what I mean Phoenix? You run from everything that isn't a battle. If you keep living like you are you'll die young and alone" The pegasus stopped and looked back "I'm sorry....I don't know what's wrong with me" He was done trying to argue the point. It didn't really even matter anymore. She was done with him and despite how much he cared about her he couldn't change anything. Besides deep down he knew she was right. He didn't want a peaceful life, He couldn't handle long stretches of time without a fight. It was the only thing that made him feel strong, talented. Fighting was all he knew it was the only thing he was good at. "Good luck Sulfur. I...I get where you're coming from...for whatever that's worth" He said before he took off flying. He didn't even know where he was going. He just wanted to fly, to get away from the pulsing pain in his chest.
The night was long. The alcohol made him feel a bit better but it never really stopped him from hurting. He had been with that mare for a year and where was he now? Alone in some cheap bar. Maybe she was right. He just couldn't seem to keep any relationships going. Even non romantic ones. He wasn't like other ponies. He didn't want to go get lunch or take a stroll through the park. The things other ponies did with their friends were all painfully boring for him. The only 'normal' thing he did like was going for a drink. He sighed before taking another gulp of cider but this was not a fun drinking night. He looked over to his right, his sword sat leaning against the stool he sat on. He loved that blade. It was the only thing he could truly depend on. It would never leave him and it was made for fighting, just like him. He was snapped out of his thoughts by a stallion approaching him from behind, seemingly walking over from a table with two other drunk stallions "Woah, that's a reeeeeaaal big sword" The drunkard said with a laugh "How'd you even get that in here? Like wouldn't the owner or something stop you?" Phoenix sighed in annoyance but the earth pony didn't seem to notice "The tender knows me. I'm a regular, I spend a lot of bits and I don't cause trouble" The stallion snorted and reached for the handle of the sword "Can I see it for a sec?" He asked as he grabbed the hilt of the large scimitar. Suddenly he yelled and yanked his hoof back, a small burn mark appearing on it "Sorry pal. The sword's got some nasty magic on it" Phoenix said with a smirk "That really hurt you dick!" The stallion yelled as his two friends stood up and started to make their way over. Phoenix slowly stood up as well "What's your problem man!? You burned me!" The stallion yelled as the pain started to sober him up a bit "I think you did that to yourself" Phoenix said as he turned to face the three stallions "You've got no clue how badly you just screwed up" Slurred one of the stallions as he stepped forward and tried to grab Phoenix. The red pegasus raised his hooves slightly and brought them down on the joints of his assailants elbows, blocking the grab. Without a thought Phoenix followed up with a right hook that sent the stallion reeling back and tripping over his own hooves "Come on then bigshot, Why don't you show me?" He jeered as the stallion on his left threw a punch. Luckily Phoenix had only downed a few drinks and was not too drunk to fight. He easily grabbed the drunkard's hoof and pulled him towards his friend with the burn. Phoenix would then kick him in the back, sending him face first into his injured buddy. Suddenly Phoenix was grinning, adrenaline flowing through him. He had been sad but now all that sadness had become angry and excitement. He was gonna show these guys what for. The stallion he had punched slowly got back to his hooves, blood trickling from his nose "You dumb bastard! our boss will hear about this and you'll be a goner!" He said as he took a step towards Phoenix. The pegasus laughed and dashed forwards ready to take out his pain on this poor stallion. He slammed his hoof into the stallion's right shoulder, then he closed the distance and hit him in the sternum. The stallion's movements were slow in part due to the alcohol no doubt. He couldn't block the next strike that hit his other shoulder or the next two that hit him in the stomach and face. The poor drunkard yelled out in pain as Phoenix kicked him away.
It was a cold night to walk home. It was a shame really. He kind of liked that bar and from the yelling of the bar keep it didn't sound like he was welcome back. He sighed as he hefted his sword over his shoulder. He wasn't mad though he had kind of put that one stallion in a hospital. No doubt he'd have a bit of legal trouble or something. He sighed thinking about it as he walked to his apartment, trying to think of what he should tomorrow. Who knows maybe he'd get lucky and someone would hire him to kill a monster or some work of the sort. Yeah that would be really nice. Another good fight. That's what he needed.
