Recently got into "We Were Here Together" with a friend, and it gave me an idea for a story, so here it is.
This was the only time so far Asuka had come to Lunae without any plans to climb the mountain. She was in a bit of a rough spot in life right now, and she thought her old friend Roray might be a bit lonely. The old geezer was rightfully surprised when he saw Asuka step off of the rickety old bus. Did she really plan to summit Lunae a second time? Thankfully, no. She was just here to visit. Though he's not quite sure why she came for a visit, he's glad to have some familiar company.
After a few hours of conversing Roray motions for Asuka to come behind the counter. After she does so, Roray opens a hatch behind the counter, and allows Asuka to enter with himself following behind. Asuka is amazed to find a whole cabin underneath the tour shack. So THIS is where Roray spends his time when he's not waiting for guests. After the hatch closes Roray tells Asuka that he's not expecting any other guests any time soon, and the two can spend their time in the cabin while Asuka is visiting. Asuka is just glad she's not going to have to sleep in the shack's floor.
The first day of Asuka's visit is quite cozy. Roray has a record player which he uses to play a few old acoustic songs while the two enjoy hot chocolate, stories, and a few board games together. In a way, Roray reminded Asuka of her grandfather on her father's side of her family. She only ever got to visit him in Neighpan once as a young child, but she remembers her grandfather doing much the same with her as Roray was doing now. Making his granddaughters hot drinks to warm them up in the winter, telling them stories from their ancestors, and teaching them how to play games like Go, and Shogi. It was a much needed break from the chaos of her job.
Asuka slept well that night. Thankfully Roray happened to have a guest bed he could pull out for Asuka to sleep on. It wasn't the best bed in the world, but it kept her off of the floor, and out of her sleeping bag, so she didn't mind. Waking up was a different story however.
Asuka awakes after tossing and turning for a while. She jolts up in her rickety bed with sweat running down her forehead, and her body in 'work mode.' It takes her a moment to realize she's not in an ambulance, and the sound she's hearing isn't dispatch. The sound is coming from a radio in another room. Asuka slips out of bed to investigate, only to find Roray already at the radio, trying to fiddle with the signal. When he notices Asuka he gives her a nod. "Sorry we can't enjoy a nice breakfast at the moment. Could you help me with this? There's an antenna on top of the shack, and I need you to adjust it a bit for me so we can hear this signal better." Asuka's body is still in work mode at the time. Her face turns serious as she nods and heads to slip her heavy coat, and other winter coverings on. Just before she leaves, Roray shouts for her to grab a walkie-talkie from the fireside table. She does so before going to exit the cabin.
Asuka emerges from the shack, and heads around the back to find an old ladder set up against it. She carefully climbs up to the top of the shack, and finds the antenna. Asuka then lifts the walkie-talkie to her mouth to speak over the howling wind. "Alright. I'm at the antenna. What do you need me to do?" Roray's voice comes back over the walkie-talkie. "Turn it a few times. Need to see where the signal is coming from." Asuka turns the antenna about 4 times (around 30 degrees each turn) before Roray stops her. It's now facing towards Lunae. "I think you've got it in the right spot. I just need to fiddle with the radio a bit." After around a minute of waiting Roray comes over the radio again. "Twist it just a little more." To which Asuka complies, and turns the antenna 20 degrees. "There! I think you can come back inside now."
Asuka doesn't bother taking her coverings off when she re-enters the cabin. She re-enters the room Roray is in as he appears to be jotting something down onto a notepad. Then she hears a voice over the radio. It appears to be a stallion in distress.
"Is anybody out there?! We're stuck in a tunnel! It's closed off behind us! Our coordinates are [X Number, Y Number] [X Number, Y Number] [X Number, Y Number]. Please send help! We don't have a way back, and we don't have the tools to dig ourselves out!"
Asuka's face turns grim. She's not a mountaineer, or a search and rescue expert, but she's certain she and Roray are the only two ponies close enough to even pick up the distress signal. Roray finishes his jotting, and turns to look to Asuka. She simply nods. A paramedic's work is never done.
Roray grabs a map, a few tools, and some supplies before he covers up in winter wrappings. He and Asuka then exit the shack to find a snowmobile waiting for them. Odd, Asuka doesn't remember seeing one here before. Without a word Roray hops onto the front of the snowmobile, with Asuka sitting on the back. He starts up the snowmobile, and the two are quickly off towards the point on the map Roray had identified as the most likely place the signal had come from.
The ride is around an hour as the snowmobile winds through the passes of Lunae, over towards the eastern side of the mountain. The snowmobile crests a hill, and Asuka is met with a sight she'd never seen before.

There was a whole city here. A city that likely used to be home to thousands, if not tens of thousands of ponies. Now it was partially buried under the snow. Buildings standing tall against the buffeting winds. Some having collapsed long ago, while others looked like they were still habitable. It was surreal. To Asuka, it almost looked like Vanhoover if it had suffered a major blizzard. The thought sent shivers down her spine. Or maybe that was just the biting wind starting to seep into her coverings. Regardless, the snowmobile trudges onwards with it's two passengers both surveying the area for a tunnel that might house someone to rescue.
Asuka points to a building off to their left, and Roray turns the snowmobile to investigate. Upon arriving at the building they find it to be an old miner's barracks. A little farther off the two find another snowmobile parked outside of what looks to be a mineshaft. The source of the signal must be nearby. Roray turns off the snowmobile, and the two dismount. They check their gear before affirming their preparedness to each other with a nod. Once they're both ready, Roray equips a flashlight, and leads the two into the tunnel. Whoever was stuck in here they were going to get them out.
