Dusk grew up in the unassuming village of Hoofinville. Raised as a single child, he quickly gained an appreciation for wordplay and the telling of tales. He voraciously tore through as many books as he could get his young hooves on, his vocabulary expanding by leaps and bounds. When it came time to leave the nest, he headed on his way to Ponyville, the local larger city.

It was there that he would meet a mare that would change his life. His first love would change his outlook on the world, opting to put his novel writing to the side to help her with setting up her dream of opening her own establishment. Things were going well for them, her bar was doing well and he was making all sorts of friends.

Then, one day, she vanished. Without a word she exited from his life, leaving a bewildered Dusk alone without anything but her bar to keep him company. Having nothing else in life, he dutifully took up the mantle and kept the place open. He'd made too many friends, enjoyed his time too much there, to ever want to close it down. All thoughts of a career as a novelist had been pushed aside at this point and he focused solely on expanding what would become his bar.

Eventually, the flame of passion he held for her would slowly wither into nothing more than a fond memory. What had started as simply a way to upkeep what he viewed as her's had turned into pouring love and care into what he viewed as his. She never did come back to him and he figured that this was the way things were supposed to be.

"The Bourbon Room." At one point a staple of the area, now it was just a dusty old tavern with barely anything worth consuming. He'd let his life's work get to this point after slacking off for so long. But now there was new life breathed into the joint, an air of something new. The bar was clean, the glasses shining. New tables were scattered around the scuffed and tarnished floor. The stools had been reupholstered and the jukebox had been repaired. A fresh and glowing set of vices and spirits adorned the mirrored wall behind the bar, even more in a secretly magic compartment underneath. Of course only he knew how to get into there, where he kept his most prized booze. The door is unlocked, the lights are on, and Dusk stands behind the bar with a familiar rakish grin.
