sadly Skype used to rely on keeping the history of messages past a certain date only on the device you're using it on, then after that they'll probably then be lost depending on what happens to the files

I more think it was all saved on the client side. and if said files of the conversations were lost, skype would not recover them unless they were only recent messages.
