He swilled the glass around a little, hearing the ice clinking against the tumbler as he did. The fire was warm and his abode cosy, yet something was amiss. The room was bare, no decorations or anything remotely Christmasy strung up. He turned his head then and looked outside his window at all of the ponies playing in the snow both young and old, celebrating Chrism- Hearth's Warming time. He didn't understand it, not really. The last time he'd celebrated Christmas would have been... 1941? When he was just a kid, with his... His family. He hadn't celebrated Christmas since that year, so long ago. Even when he was in the army and the men were making merry with the holidays boosting morale, all that holiday did accompanied by his birthday no less, was make him miserable. He sat away from the other soldiers who were celebrating, although he of course never missed a chance to drink. During this holiday, he spent it alone, in solitude, stewing in his own loneliness and hatred. He remembered the rationing, the barebones Christmas the men all had to work with. Small palty trees decorated with whatever was on hand, an assortment of tins mostly. Gifting each other favourite rations and the like. He never drank brandy back then, there was pretty much none to be drank. There was rum and pretty much only rum. You could get your rationed whisky, sure, but generally it was rum you had to drink. Wyatt continued to look out at the Ponies celebrating, reminiscing how lucky they were to be able to enjoy and celebrate the holiday as they were, no tainted memories, no bad experiences. 5 years old was Wyatt's last Christmas, after that he never saw the holiday as something to really celebrate. For him it was an occasion to remember years past. Pfft, what wasn't? He remembered the cold, the thin uniforms. Shoving newspapers down your smock to add some extra insulation. Wondering if holding your hands near the LMG barrel when it was white hot after firing would maybe warm you up a little. Wanting any reprieve from the cold at all. But not here, not afterwards. They play in the cold snow, the sight of it excites them... But for Wyatt it just brought back the memories, the screams of the damned... He turned away and poured himself another glass. This was going to be another long Christmas.
