Marina always screwed up. Except this time, it wasn’t a normal screw up of hers, like perhaps insulting a innocent pregnant mare she assumed to be overweight. It was the screw up of screw ups, but more calculated than usual... somewhat planned. Such came from her own desires, her desperate need of closure. even if it meant risking her own safety...
Being a scientist who was slowly moving up the ranks, Marina had received special privileges to work in one of the most prestigious labs located in Canterlot Castle. Quickly throwing on a white lab coat, She had been quick to shoo the guards out of the work area so she was completely alone. they left with a sigh of relief, because who wanted to watch somepony stare at shells? From underneath her wing, she pulled out an odd looking formation... a pitch black crystal, and placed it on her workbench carefully, ignoring the mesmerizing way it glimmered. It had been a project she’d been working on for a while actually— shells, despite everyone’s assumptions that they were useless, had magic properties she was determined to shed a light on. And when combined with another magical item...
From her saddlebag, she pulled out a carefully wrapped ‘Equestrian Spire’ shell, unwrapping it and setting it next to the black crystal. She took a step back. “Okay... do your thing.” she breathed, wincing almost in anticipation for anything. The walls of this lab were protected by unicorn magic, so whatever effects wouldn’t annihilate the castle and herself. Nothing happened. She frowned. This was a particular shell she had used with smaller, less-evil crystals, and she was able to observe a myriad of results, such as random objects from around herself appearing and disappearing. Her hypothesis that this shell had the ability to bring certain things to existence was a bit rough and unprepared but, she had very little patience now in pursuit of what her true goal was.
“Come on, do it...” she started, as if her encouragement would speed on the process.
Suddenly, the black crystal crackled.
