The Castle

The Queen certainly had seen better days, her condition was stable.... but she looked like crap.... and thanks to Aurora Sparkle who helped her to get to the infirmary! She had a few stumbles along the way.... but now that she was in the infirmary the nurses now could treat and heal their Queen.

She bounced and rolled before slamming into a wall. The portal having been the last time she'd seen the Queen moments before. Back from the universe, back in reality. Her eyes slowly opened to take in everything about her. Her body hurt, her ego was destroyed, and she was furious. Once more...once more she had failed. Once more everything she'd tried to do was for nothing. Every time she tried to win, every time she tried to do what was right, she failed. She lost. This failure, the failure to save something bigger than she could even dream of being had reminded her of the day. The day that she watched her friend, her dearest friend sacrifice himself before her. And it hurt. As if a cold knife's edge was drawing across her heart like a bow and a cello string. This cello a broken, shattered remnant of what once was. Finally, she stood, and looked about the training dummies. Guards slowly backed away as they could see the magic radiating from the witch. Her breathing tense and choked as she looked to the ground. Then she screamed. Head raised and horn flaring to life with intense magic. She fired beam after beam, used telekinesis to slam the dummies into the ground and walls. Destroying each one until they were rubble. Then, a sudden realization hit the witch and she looked to the sky. "You." "You are the reason! You bastards are the reason for all of this! You are the reason I am stuck losing over and over! Damn you. I swear to you, Stars above, I-" Her eyes caught the glimpse of a rabbit cowering in the reflection of a window. Suddenly, Aurora was very aware at what she must do. What she must accomplish. She must right her wrongs, correct her mistakes, repay the debt of a loved one. Fix a broken soul. So, she decided it was time to cross the field. To break the world, the laws, the universe. Magic flared from her horn, and she threw a lasso into the night sky. It snagged onto something, and she pulled it down. Aurora pulled a literal Star from the sky, bringing it down towards the castle. The giant, glowing ball of energy a sight to be seen from all around as it fell. Then, with another scream, she charged up an immense magical blast and fired it through the center of the Star! The beam continued into the sky, space, and beyond. It was a white flash that seemed to only last a moment before, suddenly, the star exploded outwards, then imploded back in. Swirling into a tornado that crashed down before Aurora. The moment the Star touched the ground, her horn lit up one final time, and with a final cry of pain, the type of pain she felt deep in her heart, and cast upon the Star's remains. The beam from before returned from space, crashing down through the vortex, sucking in the remains and exploding before Aurora. Then, the training grounds before her seemed to explode, sending her launching backwards once more. As she slowly sat up, rubbing the blur and flash from her eyes, she'd focus on a single glowing form just across the way from her. The glow subsided, leaving the night sky dark once more, except for the one thing before her. She stood, stumbling towards the figure laying on the ground. In an instant she wrapped her hooves around him, holding him in close...and finally, tears fell from her eyes. Heavy sobs as she squeezed tightly onto the one that'd been her guide for the longest time since the battle. A "rabbit" before her, who's soul no longer remained within her own, freed now and returning back to its body... "Ghostbit...I-...you...I..."

View MoreLeon slowly walked his way up to the door leading to the holding cells, dressed in his usual clothes, a measured look on his face as he slowly gripped the handle, pausing for a moment before taking a deep breath and calming himself. The stallion had learned from Diana that Artemis had been taken over by something, he'd guessed as much from the fact he'd been awoken by a code blue but hearing the confirmation from someone else confirming his suspicions had left him somewhat at ease, although he couldn't shake the feeling that whatever was down there was something he would not be ready for. He took a few deep breaths, steadying himself as he did. Whatever this thing was inside of the former King, he had to make sure it didn't get to him. He had a plan in mind, not a particularly good one but he had to make sure that whatever was on the outside, Artemis was still inside. He was going to try and make him mad, get any semblance of the former King to reveal that there was still something inside that shell that was fighting for control. He had to steel himself. Leon turned the handle and let the door creak open, entering the stairwell and closing the door behind him before slowly making his way down it, his heavy, metallic footsteps echoing through the tight well as he made his way down to the bottom. Rounding the corner, he laid his eyes on Lord Somber, looking over the magically caged alicorn with a look of nothing but sheer, unparalleled disappointment in his left eye, sitting himself down on the second to last step as he studied the form before him. Even without a scan, he could tell that whatever this thing was, it had immense power radiating from it, he could feel it just in the air alone. The large stallion reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out a box of cigarettes and his lighter, tapping one of the cigarettes out of the box, putting it between his pursed lips and lighting it with a single flip of the lighter, taking a long drag before puffing out a large cloud of smoke, studying the being in front of him for a few moments before taking the cigarette between his metal index and middle finger and tapping the ash onto the cold concrete floor. "Heard you took a demotion in position, went from King to Lord. How very humble of you, Artemis." He spoke mockingly, his voice monotone and cold as he looked over the former King again, studying him as he waited from a response from the creature in front of him. #rp

Does that bother you, having someone around as incomprehensible to you as you are to everyone else in this city? Worried I'll steal your limelight?" The stallion asked coldly, not a hint of care in his voice as he continued to study the caged monstrosity in front of him. He listened to Somber explain himself, taking in every word, every syllable as he stood up, making his way over to the edge of the cage and standing right on the other side of the barrier. "A touching story, lovely family reunion and all but I really couldn't care less about what you are. Far as I'm concerned, you're just another tyrant to be felled and you made a substantial mistake getting vicious enough to grab my attention. No, what I want to know, is if Artemis is in there and can hear me." He spoke coldly, a hint of threat passing through his voice as he looked directly into the eyes of the creature before him. "I want to know if he felt good about betraying his family. Leaving his wife to shoulder the burdens of an entire kingdom by herself. Terrifying his children into thinking they're destined to become just like him. Killing allies who would have laid down their lives for him before the thought of him asking for such a thing even concocted itself as an idea in his head, and all for what? Power? Dominion? He had nearly the whole of Equestria at his beckon call, and it wasn't enough for him? I wonder, what did it feel like to abandon those he swore he would protect until his dying breaths, to truly give in to something so..." He paused for a moment as he looked over Somber. "Unimpressive. Pathetic, even." Another moment passed before Leon looked directly into Somber's eyes again, his gaze glacial as he threw his cigarette onto the ground and snuffed it out under the sole of his shoe. "Most of all, I wonder just one thing. Did he ever love his family? Or were they just a convenient shield from the beginning?"

View MoreLeon listened intently as Somber spoke to him, a subtle, barely noticeable frown coming to his face as he took his gloves off and slipped them into his pockets, before unzipping his bomber jacket and slipping it off his arms, throwing it behind himself onto the stairs and exposing some of his cybernetics and the black, almost crystalline plate that acted as a chest plate to Somber, pressing a pair of sections on it and causing it to hiss, before slipping it off of himself and exposing his internals to the being. Inside of him was a mess, a titanium rib cage, clear pipes running every which way, transporting the bright pink neon that acted in place to his sickly, blackened heart, a strange device wrapped around it squeezing it rhythmically to keep it beating in time. The stallion put the plate down against the wall, before returning back to eye level with Somber. "You think you've got me all figured out, don't you? Think I'm not honest with myself, alright. I am a monster, I'm nothing more than a corpse, puppeteered by titanium strings, bought back from a death I couldn't possibly have avoided. I shouldn't be standing here, I shouldn't have been standing for the past twenty four years and yet, here I am in front of you. I failed my family, three metal monstrosities broke into my house back when I was still a full body, and they tore me to ribbons. I told them to run, I screamed and I pleaded for them to go out the back way even as my skin was flayed from my flesh, even as my limbs were torn from my body, even as my spine was shattered like glass, even as my chest was caved in like it was made of plaster and it wasn't enough. The damage I managed to get on those creatures with my shotgun was nothing more than token, I knew I couldn't win but I just had to buy them enough time to get out safely. I couldn't. As I drew my final breath of my full body life, I saw them being dragged away to a waiting harvester truck, screaming out for me, pleading for me to get up, to do something, anything and I couldn't." He kept looking Artemis in the eyes as he continued on. "I woke up in a hospital bed three and a half years later as you see me now, begging for them to tell me where my family was, begging them to tell me they'd been found. All I found was a token grave with their names on it and immediately following that, I was ordered to fight until I expired, to never stop tearing those machines apart until one of them finally got the better of me or I would have three micro explosives planted in my heart, my brain and my spinal rig detonated. I did as I was told and more. I was bitter, hateful, I despised the full bodies who looked at me like I was a freak, as if I had chosen this for myself, as if I had a choice in the matter as nothing more than a corpse that couldn't beg to be laid to rest. I stopped caring about civilian casualties, any amount of them were acceptable to me, I tried to justify it with platitudes of 'they shouldn't have been out past curfew', but I killed a lot of them. I didn't care how many full bodies stood between me and those metal monstrosities, they were acceptable losses to me. I am deathly honest with myself, parasite. I have no qualms with accepting what I was." He paused for a moment before looking down and shaking his head, looking back into Somber's eyes. "I've no doubt that his family loves him but that's the thing. You're not him. You're his titanium strings, you're controlling his body, his mind, his powers. They don't see you, they see him, a power mad child playing despot and using his body as the medium for it. A family's love is deep, borderline unbreakable, but it's not unconditional, especially when the one they loved is no longer recognizable to them. Diana for example, she doesn't love him anymore. I talked to her, she's been hollowed out, petrified of repeating your mistake. His mistake. She thinks she's fated to become you, she thinks she's got no other alternative in life to becoming your mirror and it's broken her. Which is precisely why I am going to do what you can't. I'm going to be a father figure to that little girl, I'm going to teach her kindness, teach her goodness, teach her to stand tall while holding her ground against monsters like you or I. You've clearly got no interest in doing it, no interest in saving her from herself, so I will take up that interest. I won't let you throw away the family Artemis always wanted in his stead. You won't have them."
