View MoreIt began at a public event, I had arrived late by car after stopping when I has passed an old friend, but I had eventually made it to a culdesac of a family member. It was late in the evening, the sun had set to just the amber glow of a city's street lights. A gathering of men decried a woman for having come into contact with a man. There was a bickering as less mysoginistic members (and admittedly, less obviously religious) argued in her favour, including myself. I left to get a drink, and the men dispersed rather than come to conflicting opinions. I returned and the girl gifted me a rosewood staff for it. It wasn't a very good staff. Crisis seemingly averted I met with family, discussed the goings on, and got into a car with another family member to drive home. This was stopped a short way out as I noticed an old school friend. I stopped and greeted him, trying for conversation before noticing another friend, and another. Understanding then that perhaps the entire year of my long forgotten schoolmates were gathered outside a house for a reunion I was not invited to. Hurt: I got into the car again and set off home to leave them to said reunion. On the way home and after a rather mundane conversation about herbal lemon tea, I noticed a formation of fast, high flying aircraft streaking through the orange tinted sky. I thought this was strange but not out of the ordinary... Until the craft apparently dropped their payload. I noticed it first mid-descent, a collection of hundreds of bright lights as tiny rocket engines fired and scattered this vast conglomerate of unidentified objects through the sly like a swarm of starlings. These similarly orange objects dispersed wide, before coming down in the distance of my home valley, where the sky lit up as explosions distributed across the houses to the tune of a low and delayed thunderous boom. Incensed, we hurried home as the radio almost immediately cut out, watching another two more fleets of aircraft drop their swarming bombs on the city before panicked traffic ground to a standstill and we were forced to get out and walk; remarking on the lack of retaliatory defence. That was when a squadron broke through the clouds directly overhead. I panicked and hastily pulled my family aside while the crowd stood dumbfounded, seeking shelter as the sky lit up in a undulating mass of thermobaric fireflies. Thankfully the explosives missed us by a solid few hundred meters, but they were close enough to be felt, a bass rumble and a crack of incinerated air as the sky lit up with swelling detonations. I woke up just as the screams began to roll in on the hot night air.
