Frankly put, Mirror hated emotions. She wanted to consider herself above them, and for a long time, she’d thought she was above them. It had only been recently that she had finally realized how much of that had been a complete internal shutdown which had lasted years. A state of extreme stress so intense that she didn’t have the energy to acknowledge any of it. Disassociation had been her coping mechanism for so long that she had forgotten what to do with strong emotions. Anger. Fear. Jealousy. Even the positive ones were alien, leaving her confused and a little uneasy. Truly alone for the first time in her life, Mirror was made to face herself. There was no work to throw herself into, no statue of a loved one to explain things to - even her forest, her closest ally and friend, had turned on her. More and more often, she was frustrated. Then she was impatient. Now? Now, she was angry. Furious. With no escape, the fury seemed to consume her from the inside out. The tiniest inconvenience made her want to scream and stomp her hooves like- like a foal’s tantrum! She wasn’t a foal. She was an adult, and she was better than this, and… And she was tired. Tired of being angry. Tired of being trapped here, alone. So very tired. Her knees folded underneath her. Her head dropped down. “Why must you do this to me? What is it that I have done so very wrong?” The questions were half spoken, half mumbled. Mirror hated her woods, suddenly and with such intensity that she wanted to strike out at something. Then she hated herself just as much, for wanting to hurt the place that had been her home for so many years. And then that faded, too, into misery. She wept, right there in the middle of another path that lead to nowhere. Why not? There was no witness to make her feel ashamed. There was no one. Mirror sobbed even when her tears ran dry. There was nothing else for her to do, for she could not risk sleep, and thus no escape from her own existence. When at last she had lost even the will to cry for herself, Mirror made one last desperate plea. “If you will not let me out… let someone in. Anyone will do,” she whispered. “Please?”
