View MoreGray was rushing behind Carmine like his tail, one hand holding onto the detective and the other gripping at the toy octopus so that it wouldn’t fly off as they cut through the crowd. Like Carmine, Gray apologized for every shoulder push and every uncomfortable squeeze. “Easy, easy!” the actor begged, he knew that time was a precious resource now, but it was not necessary to get so worked over it! Seems like Carmine was determined to get them to the ideal spot so that they could finally, once and for all, have their cinematic on-screen kiss. Gray found the detective’s perseverance to be the cutest most honorable thing he’d ever witnessed, and the fact that it was all for his sake was making him weak in the knees, which did not help their run at all! Somehow, they managed to get to the top of the line with 5 minutes to spare! Whilst Carmine bargained, Gray was gasping for air after the short run. All that ice cream and funnel cake must have clogged his arteries, it was like he had aged 10 years. “God… hah… just a second…” the actor posed his free hand on his thigh and hunched over in an attempt to recover. There was no time for that though! …Only when the two of them were sitting in their little capsule were they truly able to rest. And when it came to picking the option of sitting in front of Carmine or to his side, Gray chose to sit next to him. He figured it’d be better option, since that way they both would be looking at the beautiful show without being in each other’s way. They were also lucky enough not to have to share their capsule with another couple, it was just the two as another operator secured the locks and they were sent up so that others could fill up the rest of the ride. At first, Gray let out a sigh of relief and threw himself back to catch the remaining of his breath. He sighed a happy “We did it…” and turned his gaze to his nervous companion. Those beautiful golden eyes that had accompanied him through this entire journey. He waited another minute before sitting up straight and reaching over to wrap his arm around Carmine’s back. With only about 2 more minutes until the show would start, and as they continued to slowly ascend on the wheel, Gray seemed to turn to check for something in his pocket. What could it be…? What he produced was one of those small jewelry boxes. No, he wasn’t unbalanced enough to try and propose to Carmine!!! At least… not that way. In his innocence, Gray hadn’t even considered how this all must have looked to his partner, nor how his plan might have backfired for setting it up that way! “Sorry I made you wait until now; I know there are better -more convenient- ways, but I wanted this to be special. You know? …You’ve made every day of my life special since the day you walked into it.” He popped the box open by his thigh and produced -not a ring, much to Carmine’s relief!- but a pair of magnetic matching necklaces, you know the kind. The type that are only complete when they’re put together. The sun and the crescent moon. “…And I know that I can be indecisive and reckless, that I never quite know what I want or where I’m going, but I’ve never felt more strongly about anything else in my life...” Beneath them, the shriek of the firework rising to the sky. “I’m in love with you. Carmine, I want us to be more than friends.” Gray offered the moon. “What do you say…Would you like to be my boyfriend?”

View MoreCarmine somehow felt his heart kick in to overdrive and completely dead stop when Gray began to rummage around for his pocket. He was well, well aware that Gray was the type to move fast, but he surely didn’t think he’d try and break his own record. Not even a minute after they were official, they’d be wed. It sucks, but he’d have to say no… Thankfully, it didn’t come to that! Carmine tried not to look *too* relieved, mostly because he had put all his attention in to focusing on Rivers’ sweet, sweet words. Knowing him he probably had rehearsed this all in his head like he was taking on another role… And then he brought out the necklaces. The sun and moon… two total opposites that needed each other. The gentle sun, who glows bright with a warmth revered by many, but none use it quite like the kindly moon. Both rise, both set. In some tales, both have been chasing each other since time eternal… there probably wasn’t a better metaphor for either of them. There is no day without night, just as there is no Carmine without Gray. “You know you’re a hell of a lot more than that. You *are* indecisive. And reckless. But you’re also the sweetest guy I’ve ever met… and I know I don’t have to play games with you. Or worry about what you mean when you say somethin’. You’re genuine. You’re you. And I love you.” The Moon. Gray had always joked about giving him the moon, but never had he thought this is what he’d mean. It’d make sense that they wore the emblem of the other in their chests, proud to show off to the world— and to keep a fragment of them when they were separated. He donned the necklace near instant, and offered to put Gray’s on for him. “Well, this is coming as a *total* shock to me,” he jested, “But… absolutely. You know what boyfriends do, though.” It was time they finally made this official. Carmine cradled Gray as best as he could, with one arm behind him and the other seeking out his hand. He leaned in to Gray’s side, and stretched his neck out just a hair to properly loom over the actor. He hovered just over Gray’s face to look in to his eyes for that final push. Four years of teasing, of will they/won’t they, of denial and pain, and comfort was all about to lead up to this moment. With his resolve strengthened, the red stallion leaned in to close the inch-long gap they’d created and push their lips together for that first, cinematic kiss to the background chorus of pops and fizzles.

He had been waiting so long for something that he did once consider to be nothing than a wild dream, only to have it turn into a reality. No matter how much he wanted the time to stop there forever, it kept running. It was gentle pull away, and Carmine was cheeky enough to nip him before it was all over. Gray thought he’d melt there, or his heart would burst out of his chest. None of those things happened. In the end, they only separated, and he had a chance to inhale some fresh air to cool his burning cheeks. “…Isn’t it beautiful?” the actor sighed longingly a few seconds later as he turned to rest his head against Carmine’s shoulder. The magical moment was extended up until the very last fireworks had been fired, all in quick succession of one another, finalizing the night with an explosion of color bigger than anything they had seen before. Only after that last batch burned away, did Gray think to take a glance down. “Hah, you keep looking below, what’s the matter…?” he inquired to his partner curiously. The performer’s curious eyes caught sight of those few familiar figures too. Strawberry’s parents, Pluto, Persephone, and Sawbones not too far from them. But wait… Gray frowned lightly as he realized that the crowds were beginning to disperse and yet him and Carmine remained on top. That, combined with Carmine’s comment, pointed to something being wrong. The incredulous actor cackled, “No fucking way…” Alas, his suspicions were correct. The fireworks were over now, but there was still light below… red lights to be precise and then sirens. Gray’s eyes grew wide. Firefighters. The only crowd that remained were the game operators, curious onlookers and the friends and family from those stuck in the Ferris wheel. Trip was among the operators trying to fix the thing to no avail. The rescue operation took about 60 extra minutes in total, which was still a relatively brief time! …And yes, unfortunately they had to go through the trauma of descending the structure by foot. One last adventure and in the end they were fine. Welcomed by applause like they had survived some kind of ordeal, and then later only the crickets’ chirping as they headed home covered by the dark of the night.
