Below the newspaper's logo at the top of the front page sits an illustration. In this illustration, Guard Nar Kazunah stands over a stallion laying flat on his stomach on a street at night. The stallion's right leg is bent unnaturally at the thigh, and his torso looks as though it's been bent inwards halfway up his spine. The stallion's face is contorted in a scream, his eyes shut tight. Standing over him, Guard Kazunah is depicted with a sinister grin on his face. Below the picture reads a header.
Ponyville Guard. To Protect and Serve? Or Maim, and Mangle?
Late last night, a situation arose in the streets of Ponyville, with a unicorn attacking others with magic in Haybale Square, seemingly at random. Witnesses state that Guard Nar Kazunah was among one of the first to respond to the situation. He is said to have engaged the unicorn in magical combat. After a brief struggle, Guard Kazunah overpowered the unicorn, and immobilized him with his magic. Witnesses say that Guard Kazunah then used his earth magic to brutalize the suspect by stomping his right femur, snapping it in half. Others state that the suspect's agonized screams could be heard as far as Ponyville Town Hall. Nearly 4 blocks away. Guard Kazunah then used his earth magic to shatter the suspect's spine, leaving him with potentially permanent damage. The Ponyville Guard has confirmed that the suspect was 36 year old Gantry Powers. Most of our readers may know him as the downtrodden construction worker who can usually be found wandering Ponyville Park.
Guard Kazunah is known for his application of what he calls "Ysgrim Justice", and has been reported time and time again brutalizing suspects he apprehends. To this, we ask, where is the accountability? Why has Guard Kazunah been allowed to perform such gruesome punishments without so much as a reprimand? Why have the Ponyville Guard allowed him to continue to terrorize the people of our good town? When will it stop? Surely this psychopath, masquerading as a guard will set his sights upon the innocent in due time.
We of the Ponyville Times say, enough! Guard Kazunah has been allowed to brutalize, maim, mutilate, and kill for too long! His "Ysgrim Justice" has no place in Ponyville! We beseech Captain Tower Shield to not only strip Guard Kazunah of his position, but have him thrown in the dungeon for his crimes! Surely, even King Artemis would find his actions reprehensible! He must be stopped!
Captain Tower Shield heaves a sigh in his office. Lieutenant Spellsword stands before him at attention. The captain places today's newspaper on the desk in front of him, and begins to rub his temples. Nar has always caused a bit of a stir for his brand of 'justice', but it's starting to get out of hand. Never mind that the newspaper completely left out the fact that 5 civilians were injured, and a guard killed by the suspect before Guard Kazunah apprehended him. Snapping a man's femur, then permanently paralyzing him from the waist down when he was already rendered immobile was too far. The usual grumblings from the other guards were now a full blown outcry. None of the other guards wanted to work with him anymore, and many demanded he be arrested, and tried himself. His partner, Wattzis Buckets had even been hospitalized after witnessing the event firsthand!
The captain grumbles, clenching his fists. No matter how much outcry their was, he couldn't do a thing about it. Guard Kazunah had a royal sanction for his methods, and Canterlot Castle was the only authority that could punish him for his actions. The captain has attempted to talk to Guard Kazunah about his behavior many times, but he never took any of them to heart. He'd assigned Wattzis as his partner in hopes that the guard would soften him. He hasn't. He's even petitioned Canterlot Castle to reprimand him for his actions, but they've refused every time! There was nothing he could do! The man felt no remorse for his actions either! If anything, he never thought he'd gone far enough! With a frustrated growl, the captain stands. He'll need to come up with some way to appease the guards, and the public. That, or by some miracle, convince Canterlot Castle to have him arrested. Both of which seemed impossible tasks at the moment.
As the captain exits his office, thoughts swim in his head. Lieutenant Spellsword follows behind him. If only someone like King Solaris were here. He might actually be able to do something about this.
