Which would be great! If Nar wasn't going to have to wait another two days before he gets to participate!
After watching this evening's duels, Nar is PUMPED to get his turn! He's still a little bummed he has to wait another two days, but this morning's event had to do something with reading tomes. So, he's kinda glad he didn't have to participate in that one. Maybe having to wait two days to participate is actually a blessing in disguise. #rp

The city around them is abuzz with festivities related to the Guard Games. This first week of the games has been focused on the non-magical participants of the games. The spectators like them well enough, but they're REALLY excited for the magical portion that starts next week!
Guards Wattzis Buckets, and Wild Fire sit across from their comrade, Guard Kazunah as they wait for their food to arrive. Wild Fire, and Wattzis being a lucky handful of Ponyville guards who have been sent to Canterlot to help the Canterlot Guard with security during the games. "So, what do you think of the games so far, Nar? You excited for your turn next week?" Wild Fire asks the earth mage, taking a sip of cola. "Yeah, actually. Watching all these guys show off their physicality, martial prowess, and 'chivalry' or whatever is kinda charming. That obstacle course they went though today was pretty cool. Hope they do one for us, so I can participate. I just hope the challenges for our week aren't crap like 'decipher the arcane tomes' or 'calm the raging monster without hurting it.'"
The conversation pauses as food is placed in front of the three. The waitress lingering at the table for just a moment longer than she should before being called away by another table. Wild Fire leans over to nudge his buddy, Wattzis arm with his elbow. "I think she was checking you out." Wattzis' cheeks flush for a moment, but he clears his throat, and adjusts the collar of his tunic to force it away. "Anyway. You were saying, Nar?" The earth mage simple smirks, and proceeds to dig in to his food. Leaving Watty to be pestered by Wild Fire for the rest of the lunch.
After their little lunch meet up, the three guards part ways. With Wattzis, and Wild Fire preparing for their evening patrols, and Nar returning to the arena to watch tonight's duels with his teammates. Man, he's ITCHING to get in that arena! #rp

Both officers in front, with their respective team lined up behind them. Each guard wearing their nice, formal uniforms, complete with a shiny breastplate. Stood at the back of the magical team's line, Nar can't help but chafe at all this 'formality', and 'showmanship'. When he agreed to take part in the games, he didn't think the opening ceremony was going to be so boring!
The muffled roar of a massive crowd fills the tunnel. A member of the arena staff informs the guards that they have 30 seconds until their entrance. The sound of an announcer's voice joins the roar of the crowd. It's hard to make out exactly what's being said. 20 seconds, the crowd's cheers elevate. The first team must have made their way into the arena. 10 seconds, another swell. Boots march upon stone in practiced rhythm.
"Ladies and Gentlemen!" A boisterous announcer's voice accompanies the glare of the light from outside the tunnel. The guards march out into the sandy grounds of a large arena, filled to bursting. "The Ponyville Guard Team! Lead by Lieutenants Gallant Lance, and Spell Sword!" As if those words were a command, the guards break their double file line to form one single, horizontal line, with the two lieutenants in the middle. One in formation, the guards enter parade rest in unison.
A cursory glance to his right shows Nar the two teams that have entered before them. First, is Canterlot. Arrayed in their shining golden armor. Poor guys have to be fighting heat stroke in all that metal. Second, is Manehatten. The boys in blue, with their blue dress uniforms, and pressed peak caps.
One by one, the teams of guards from each city, and town are announced, and make their entrance. Nar doesn't pay them much attention. Except for the Appaloosia guys. They're every bit as majestic as Nar had imagined they'd be. Rugged clothes, jeans, cowboy boots, and MAGNIFICENT mustaches! Man they're so cool!
After all the teams are introduced, the announcer informs the crowd of the setup of the games. 2 weeks of games, with a main event in the afternoon, and duels following afterwards, with one final event featuring all participants at the end. By the time it's finally over, Nar has just about had it with standing at parade rest! Get him out of here! Too bad for him, as the explanation of the games was only the beginning of the opening ceremony.

All at a uniform distance of course. Stood near the back of the hall, guard Wattzis Buckets quietly speculates what this meeting could be about with his comrades, Wild Fire, and Nar Kazunah. "Heard a rumor that a member of the royal family was making a trip down south soon. Might be setting up security for their trip through here." Wild Fire muses. Wattzis seems to agree. "Seems the most likely. I doubt the captain would call all of us here for something unimportant." Nar listens in, but does not speak. He doesn't really pay attention to that kind of crap. He's more of an "in the moment" kinda guy.
All murmuring in the hall falls silent as Captain Tower Shield, and Lieutenants Spell Sword, and Gallant Lance approach the podium at the front of the hall. Spell Sword being the current head of the Ponyville Guard Mage detachment, and Gallant Lance being the head of the non-magical guards. Everyone stands/sits up at attention as the captain begins to speak.
"Good morning everyone!" His voice carries at the perfect volume throughout the hall. Just as clear to the guards at the back as it is to the ones in the very front. "I know many of you have patrols to get to today, so I'll keep this brief. As many of you may know, the Equestrian Guard Games are coming up quite soon. As such, we will be selecting guards to represent us in the games within the next few days. There will be two teams for the games. Our magic team, lead by Lieutenant Spell Sword, and our non-magical team, lead by Lieutenant Gallant Lance. Throughout the next 3 days, we will be conducting inspections to find the best candidates to represent us in the games. This means there will be 4 mages, and 4 martial guards chosen for their respective teams. As per usual, you are permitted to opt out of participating in the guard games. Written opt outs must be provided within a week from now."
For once in the time that Wattzis has known Nar, the man is actively listening during a meeting. The captain gives a brief explanation of the games for those who are unaware. It's a two week long competition between the guards of each settlement in Equestria. With the non-magical guards competing in the first week, and the mages competing in the second. The games will consist of a challenge each day, followed by duels afterwards. Each team will earn points based on what position they place in challenges, and their duel wins. At the end of the two weeks, the score from both teams will be totaled, and the settlement with the highest points is crowned the winner. It's much less about proving superiority, and more about showcasing the prowess of the guards to help the populace feel safe, and in good hands.
After the meeting has dismissed, Wattzis, and his two comrades head to the mess hall for some breakfast before their patrols for the day. Wattzis is fairly certain he's not going to be chosen for the mages team for the games. Wild Fire tries to cheer him up by saying otherwise, but Nar, blunt as always, shuts him down. "Watty's got heart, yeah, but he still doesn't have great control over his lightning magic. They're gonna want mages with good control, power, and battle IQ. Gotta be able to think quick, and act quicker." Wattzis does not seem upset by this. In fact, he completely agrees. Which scares him, because those ARE the criteria the captain will be looking for, and Nar fits them fairly well. With the way Nar treats fights here, Wattzis is afraid Nar is going to give the Ponyville guard a reputation for brutality if the captain chooses him. Might be best to bring it up to Lieutenant Spell Sword after patrol today. #rp

Glimmer can't stop herself from shaking, despite the fire she's been left beside. Across the fire, two gruff looking stallions speak in hushed tones. One cleans blood off of a knife in his hand. "You think she's the one they're looking for?" The younger of the two stallions asks, glancing over at Glimmer. The older one nods, sheathing the knife. "Yeah. That's the one." The younger stallion's mouth begins to twist into a wicked grin. "Now, you be a good little girl, and-." His sentence is interrupted by a hideous snapping sound, followed by his agonized screams. "Shit!" The older stallion jumps up, drawing his knife. The younger stallion lifts his head to scream, only for it to be quickly slammed back into the ground, silencing him.
"Murder in the first degree, and kidnapping." Glimmer sees a new figure emerge on the other side of the fire. The older stallion's hands start to shake. "My verdict? Guilty. The punishment is death." Glimmer closes her eyes tight. She hears the sound of rumbling earth, then the older stallion lets out half a second of a scream. Then, all is silent.
"It's okay sweetie. The Guard is here." The figure's voice is soft now. Glimmer feels a hand gently touch her shoulder. She whimpers, but opens her eyes despite wanting not to. A gruff looking unicorn is knelt beside her with his hand on her shoulder. The ropes tied around Glimmer are loosened, and she's scooped up by a pair of rough, calloused hands. She doesn't see the face of the man who has just picked her up, but she does see the insignia of the Ponyville Guard on his tunic. After a moment, she begins to cry into it.
Nar wraps his cloak around the crying filly, and nestles her tight to his chest. "You're okay now. Let's get you somewhere safe, and warm." #rp

Below the newspaper's logo at the top of the front page sits an illustration. In this illustration, Guard Nar Kazunah stands over a stallion laying flat on his stomach on a street at night. The stallion's right leg is bent unnaturally at the thigh, and his torso looks as though it's been bent inwards halfway up his spine. The stallion's face is contorted in a scream, his eyes shut tight. Standing over him, Guard Kazunah is depicted with a sinister grin on his face. Below the picture reads a header.

"Guards! Guards!" Screams of terror fill the streets of Ponyville in the early hours of the evening. Only 10 minutes from their patrol ending, Guards Wattzis Buckets, and Nar Kazunah hurry towards the screams. When they turn a corner, a young mare practically slams into Nar. He catches her before she can fall over. "Woah! Easy now! Tell us what's going on." The mare begins to babble in a panic. "There's a psycho unicorn on the loose! He's attacking people!" Nar's response is a simple "Where?" "Haybale square!" The mare responds. Nar quickly, but gently hands the mare off to Wattzis. He then begins to sprint in the direction of the square, leaving Wattzis to comfort the mare, escort her to safety, and call for backup, alone.
Minutes later, after managing to get backup, Wattzis and his comrades race to the scene. By the time they arrive, it seems as though a battle has just recently finished. Glowing marks dot the street, and surrounding buildings. Rocks appear to be embedded into various surfaces. Then, they see one of their own, a guard, lying face down in the street, immobile. One of the other guards races to check on him, as Wattzis' stomach begins to churn. He hears a grunt, and looks up to see his partner, Nar standing over a unicorn who lies on his stomach in the street. It looks as though Nar has immobilized him by trapping his right thigh with some sort of stone restraint that's attached to the ground. Wattzis opens his mouth to call out, but the words are lost as he sees Nar lift his right leg. It's completely coated in stone.
Nar's leg comes down.
There's a sickening crunch.
The streets are suddenly filled with horrific, agonized screams. Wattzis' stomach churns. His head begins to spin. The other guards all stand frozen, even as Nar lifts his leg again. "Guard Kazunah!" A guard screams. His foot comes down once more. There's another sickening snap. This time from the unicorn's back. His screams quickly die as it seems he's suddenly lost the ability to breathe. "GUARD KAZUNAH!" The guard screams again, rushing forward to grab him. Wattzis begins to vomit. Nar backs away from the unicorn. The guard holding him seeming to be of little significance to him. "I should kill him right here." The earth mage growls. His voice has a menace to it that Wattzis has never heard before. The other guard begins to shout, but Nar cuts him off. "Save your breath. He's staying alive. He needs to suffer for what he's done. It won't nearly be enough for taking a father from a little girl either way."
Wattzis attempts to stand. He hears one of his comrades shout, but he can't tell what. Then, the world goes dark. #rp

"Especially magical ones, like this." "Yeah. Who makes these things anyway?"
The two guards have been traversing this seemingly endless labyrinth for about 4 days now. At first when the two set out to look for their missing comrade, and civilians, they thought they were entering a cave. From the outside, that certainly seemed to be the case. When they got far enough in, however, the rough stone of the cave gave way to the smooth stone of a massive labyrinth. The halls were big enough for an ancient dragon to comfortably walk through, and had clear markings that Wattzis identified as arcane runes. With only 3 days of supplies left, the two are considering turning back. If they even can, that is.
"Hold up." Wild Fire stops his companion with a hand, then gestures for him to be silent. Wattzis strains his hearing as best he can, and is rewarded with a sound. It sounds like... crying. "Ponyville Guard!" Wild Fire calls out. "Is someone there?!" The crying pauses for a moment. Then, a desperate scream echoes through the halls. "Help me!" The crying begins anew, this time, louder. "Please!" The voice sobs in the distance. Wild Fire prepares a spell, then nods. The two guards slowly approach. Slowly, a figure emerges from the gloom ahead. A middle aged mare in a tattered dress shambles towards the guards. By the monarchs! She looked so frail and weak! She must be severely malnourished! Wild Fire opens his mouth to respond, but is shocked into silence by another sight he beholds.
In the air, well above the mare, a pair of glowing green eyes, the size of small boulders come into view. They rest above a massive, gaping maw of gnarled teeth. The entire face of the creature appears to be made of wood. Wattzis' heart almost jumps into his throat as a giant timberwolf comes into view. It's maw hangs open above the mare. Wild Fire redoubles his spell. Sap drips from the creature's fangs, landing atop the mare. She opens her mouth, and lets out one final cry. The cry of a mare who knows she is about to die.
Without thought, Wattzis rushes forwards! Wild Fire tries to shout to stop him, but he doesn't hear. The creature's head moves down, and-
The wall to the right of the Timberwolf explodes in a shower of chunks of rock! A massive slab of stone slams into the creature's head, briefly pinning it to the wall on the other side of the hall! Wattzis reaches the mare, and picks her up, reeling away as a boulder lands where she had been standing! When Wattzis looks back, he sees the face of his partner, Nar, staring back at him. He looks just as surprised to see Wattzis as he is to see him! "Don't lose sight of each other! Stay as close to me as you can!" The earth mage shouts, just before the timberwolf breaks through his sheet of rock, sending him hurtling to the ground below! He brings a pillar of stone up to catch himself, then launches upwards at the creature once more! "If you get lost, I may not be able to find you again!" Wattzis passes behind Wild Fire, and a gout of flame shoots up at the timberwolf! The timberwolf howls in anger, and a battle begins within the halls. #rp

Were it not for them, he'd be uncomfortably hot, and stuffy right about now. Every guard in the town that wasn't currently on patrol was gathered in the largest of the station's briefing rooms at the moment, and with good reason.
A week ago, a group of children went missing after they went to play in the forests around the town. That night, the parents of one of the children went to look for them, and never returned. The guards sent to investigate found a strange cave in the forest that was not on any of the maps of the town, and it's surrounding area. 5 days ago, Wattzis' partner, Nar volunteered to investigate said cave, and he has not reported in since.
"Guard Kazunah entered the cave with a weeks worth of supplies. That means he has only two days of supplies left, if he still lives." Says Lieutenant Spellsword. Her voice is low, and grim, just like the mood of those in the briefing room. "And that also means it's unlikely any civilians inside are still alive either." Captain Tower Shield adds, lamenting. Wattzis didn't think the mood in the room could get any darker, but it just did.
A silence falls over the room. The Lieutenant looks over every face in the room. It looks as though she needs to speak, but doesn't want to. Beside Wattzis, his old friend, Wild Fire, rises from his chair. "Then, we'll need to send someone in to rescue them." All eyes in the room fall on him. "I volunteer." Just as suddenly, Wattzis rises beside him. "I'll go too! Nar is my partner, and thus, his well being is my responsibility!" He says that, but in truth, he cares more about Wild Fire's well being than he does his current partner's. To this, the Captain glares at the two.
"Are you sure?"
"Yes sir!" The two guards shout in unison.
"Very well..." The Captain replies, in a somber tone. "Requisition any supplies you may need. I recommend two weeks worth for yourselves, and extra, in case you locate any of the missing persons, or Guard Kazunah." The two salute in understanding. Before they turn to leave, the Captain makes a last, chilling statement. "We will not send anyone else in after you. If you are lost, you must find your own way back. We will not risk any more lives in this endeavor." With that, the guards are dismissed. #rp
