It's been about 3 hours since the patrol started, but everything's gone smoothly so far. Wattzis Buckets, and Wildfire have been standing guard in the Lord's Manor since they arrived. There's been little to do, and conversation has to be kept to a minimum, so more than anything, Wattzis has been bored out of his mind. Such is the life of a guard.
Wattzis' eyes move to watch as Lieutenant Spellsword enters the manor's atrium on her patrol route. She gives the two guards a short nod. Nothing to report. They nod back in response. Good so far, but the meeting's still going on. They have to stay vigilant. The Lieutenant turns, and begins to walk towards the stairs Wattzis, and Wildfire are guarding. As she reaches about halfway, the manor's front doors fly open with a loud slam. The Lieutenant quickly pivots to face the front door, and only has a second to analyze. There are three figures in the doorway. On the left, a massive Minotaur. On the right, a gryphon in a cowl, and in the middle, a slender, hooded unicorn. She surmises these must be the 'disgruntled employees' they mentioned in the briefing. Lieutenant Spellsword opens her mouth to shout a command, but the gryphon takes to the air. He raises his talons, and a dark energy sparks from them, giving off the illusion of dark claws jutting from them. The Lieutenant readies her sword. A bolt of lightning shoots into the air from behind her, but the gryphon manages to swoop to the side before he begins a dive towards her.
Wattzis internally curses himself for missing his attack. He readies another bolt, but by the time he can get it off, the gryphon will be too close to the Lieutenant for him to safely shoot it at the gryphon.

The blur of the gryphon diving towards the lieutenant suddenly changes direction, as something else collides with him mid-air. There's a loud slam, and chunks of marble fly into the air as the gryphon appears to be slammed into the floor. To his surprise, Wattzis now sees his partner, Nar, standing with his boot on the gryphon's chest. The gryphon has been half buried into the marble floor. Nar also appears to be holding an unconscious manor guard in one of his hands. The gryphon lifts his talon to try and strike at Nar's leg. Instead, Nar lifts his leg, then stomps on the gryphon's chest. There's a sickening crunch, then the gryphon's arm falls limp. Nar's eyes stay locked on the slender unicorn as he tosses the unconscious guard towards him. "Next time you try to have a spy ambush someone, don't send a light mage to try to blind an earth mage in a stone cellar." The slender unicorn's eyes widen. The minotaur roars, and steps forward. "I will " Nar's leg winds back, as if readying for a kick. The minotaur charges forward. Nar's leg comes back down. The unicorn's voice screams from the front doorway.
Nar's foot digs into the ground. The marble floor ripples forward in front of him. A pillar of marble shoots up from below, catching the minotaur's chest. It skyrockets, slamming the minotaur against the ceiling, leaving him there. "Surrender " Lieutenant Spellsword booms a command as she rushes towards the unicorn. To Wattzis' surprise, the unicorn obliges. He throws his hands above his head, allowing the Lieutenant to approach without resistance. "I'm no fool." He snarls. "Had I known the Executioner was here, I'd have left well enough alone." Without another word, the unicorn is placed in cuffs by the Lieutenant, and lead to a separate room to be detained.
Wattzis stares at the minotaur pinned to the roof in surprise, and awe. Beside him, Wildfire whistles. "Man. How'd you show up just in time? Weren't you in the cellar?" Nar turns to the other two guards as he finally steps off of the gryphon. "They had a spy on the inside. Planned to take me out in the cellar, but the dumbass triggered the trap early, and forgot I'm an earth mage. Flash of light, then I just hit him with a rock, and knocked him clean out. Rushed up here as soon as he was out." Wildfire raises an eyebrow. "And how did you get up in the air to intercept that dive?" Nar motions behind Wildfire, to a pillar of stone coming out of the floor at an angle. Wildfire simply nods. "Damn. I gotta learn how to do that with my fire."

"W-well, were the guards trained to spot one?" Sprout asked, the way she said "one" sounding like she was gonna say "us". She was losing her cool. She had to stop talking. Just stop talking, just stop talking...
She missed her scheduled blink staring Nar down, her irises flashing bright green.

"I'm pretty sure the more experienced guards are, yeah. I know Lieutenants and up are, but I didn't get much training in that kind of thing beyond the basics. To be fair, most of what I learned was from a field manual that all guards were required to read during training. Basic stuff that most peopl... View More

"..." Sprout examined her options. Running and fighting were still out of the question...
"Maybe it is," Sprout said. Not the most graceful retreat, but it sounded like this was the only way to get out unscathed. "Have a piss-poor day, officer." With that, she turned around and walked off.
"Wha-." Nar's face contorts in confusion. "You're saying that like a child getting eaten is just... normal here. I sincerely hope you're just pulling my leg, and someone didn't ACTUALLY eat a child."

//Woe, introductory post be upon thee.
For a guard, Ponyville was one of the best places to be stationed. Whattzis Buckets woke up every day, excited to protect the town he'd grown up in. He loved to patrol the streets, converse with the townsfolk, and help them when they needed it. He particularly liked when the schoolhouse reached out to him to read to the children. They were always so excited to see a guard in person, and he loved to read them stories of the great heroes of old.
Today was a normal day for a Whattzis. He had his usual patrol route, with some planned stops here and there to check on some of the townsfolk. He was supposed to be patrolling with his newly assigned partner whom he'd heard of before, but never met in person. He'd heard some... unpleasant... stories about the guy, but figured they were just the other guards stirring up rumors because of stories they'd heard about the country the guy came from.
A cry from nearby catches the guard's attention. He jogs towards the source, and turns a corner to see a man accosting a woman. He has a knife in one hand, and appears to be motioning for the woman to hand him her purse with the other. The moment Whattzis rounds the corner, the man's eyes widen, and he reaches out to grab the woman. He spins her around, and places the knife in front of her neck.
"Don't!" Whattzis calls out, electricity beginning to crackle around his horn. "Drop the knife! Nobody has to get hurt here!" He commands, but the man shakes his head. "Fat chance! You want to make sure nobody gets hurt? Turn around, and act like you didn't see anything!" The woman looks to him with pleading eyes. The energy around his horn flares momentarily. "Drop the knife, or I'll use force!" The man snarls. "You wouldn't!" He's called his bluff. Wattzis doesn't have enough control over his magic to ensure it won't arc to the woman if he uses it to zap the mugger. Alright. Think! How can you resolve this situation without anyone getting hurt?
Whattzis' thoughts are interrupted as a small object impacts the man's hand with force. He hears a soft 'crunch', and the man recoils, dropping the knife to the floor, and releasing his hostage. He cries out in shock, and pain as Whattzis hurries forward to place himself between the mugger, and his victim. Electricity crackles from his horn. He opens his mouth to shout, but a larger, stone object collides with the mugger's head, sending him reeling to the ground. A figure strides into view from his left, and crouches down next to him. The mugger looks up to the figure, tears in his eyes, and soft whimpers escaping his lips.
The figure has mute-blue fur, shaggy, brown hair, and a straw hat. Underneath a black coat with yellow trim, he wears a simple tunic sporting the emblem of the Ponyville Guard. "Man. You're pathetic. One little rock to the head, and you start crying like a baby?" The figure shakes his head. Whattzis surmises that this must be his new partner. The figure looks over to the woman, whom Whattzis is currently checking on. He then looks back down to the mugger. "You'd better hope there aren't any cuts, or bruises on that young lady right there." The figure grabs hold of one of the mugger's hands, making sure to leave the fingers exposed. "Because for every cut, and bruise you gave her, I'll break one of your fingers." The figure's voice is low, and sinister. The man begins to quietly plead, and shake his head. This guard's entire demeanor makes Whattzis shudder. This is no way for a guard to behave!
"Stop!" Whattzis commands. "He's clearly incapable of resisting! There's no need for such threats!" The figure stands, and looks to Whattzis. His expression changes to one of boredom. "Alright, alright. I'll take him to the station." He leans down again, and grabs hold of the mugger's arms, placing them behind his back before melding stone bindings around them. "Alright then buddy. You get to keep all your fingers. For now."
As the other guard turns to walk away Whattzis tells the woman to accompany him to the station, so she can give a statement. Then, the two follow behind the other guard as he guides the mugger through the streets. "You!" Whattzis calls out. "What is your name, and rank?" The figure turns his head to look over his shoulder. "Nar Kazunah. I'm just a humble guard. I assume you're the partner they assigned me to?" Whattzis frowns. He's acting far too casual for a guard! "Whattzi's Buckets! Second Class Patrol Guard! I've been assigned to ensure you follow proper procedure, and protocol when performing your duties!" Nar waves his free hand dismissively. "Whatever you say. Next time, don't take a year to act when a civilian's life is in danger."
