EMS work in Ponyville has been a million times more boring than it was in Vanhoover. Not that Asuka is complaining. She'd much rather go out to check on someone's grandmother who seems a little confused, than patch someone up after a stabbing. Of course, not every call she goes on is a peaceful one. She's still responded to her fair share of fires, altercations, and has even been shot at once. Even so, the volume of those more dangerous calls pales in comparison to how many she responded to in Vanhoover.
This morning, Asuka's ambulance receives a message from dispatch informing them of an unusual call. Suspected Code 7, mental break. There have been reports of a young man wandering the streets around a local warehouse. Callers say he looks distressed, but does not respond when called to, and rambles incoherently. Sounds like some sort of psychotic episode. Asuka's ambulance will get there first, but police are also on their way to help out. Just in case.
Approaching the location provided by dispatch, Asuka can see two figures down the road. One is a young man, who appears to be wandering in the road. His eyes, and head dart around as if he's surrounded by things nobody else can see. The second figure is a young mare, who appears to be trying to talk to the man. Stepping out of the ambulance, Asuka can finally hear the words the two are speaking. The man's ramblings sound like word salad. Sentences jumping from subject to subject between words. At the start of one sentence, he says something about a pie. By the end of the sentence, he's saying something about 'the claws.' The young mare on the sidewalk is calling out to him in a calm, nurturing voice. "Sir! It's going to be okay! I can help you!"
"Hey! You need to get back! You could be in danger!" Asuka's driver calls out to the mare as the two EMS workers approach. The man in the street suddenly stops his wandering. "It's okay! I'm a psychology major!" The mare responds. One arm slides into the man's coat. Asuka's instincts kick in. Before she can think, she shouts "Gun!" The young mare on the sidewalk seems confused. Asuka, and her partner turn to hurry back towards their ambulance.

A gun shot goes off behind Asuka. The young mare lets out a terrified scream, and the man begins to let out distressed cries. "Get away from me! S-stay away!" He cries, flailing a handgun in the air. Asuka reaches for her radio. In a calm voice,m with an urgent tone, she states "10-33. Shots fired. Civilians in the area." Almost instantly, she's met with about 4 different police officers responding that they're enroute. The man discharges a second round into the air. The young mare remains frozen in place. "Run! Run!" Asuka screams over her shoulder as she, and her partner sprint to their ambulance. She hears the mare begin to sob, but her voice appears to move. Asuka looks over her shoulder again to see the mare trying to run towards a nearby power box for cover.
Asuka, and her partner make it behind their ambulance just in time to hear a police siren approaching from down the road.
"Mom!" The young man cries out. His voice full of distress, and fear. "Mom! Mom! Help me!" The man discharges another round. Asuka hears it smash against the asphalt a few feet from the ambulance. The young mare behind the power box continues to sob uncontrollably. Without peeking beyond the back of the ambulance, Asuka can't tell exactly what's going on.
The sound of the siren becomes far louder as a police cruiser pulls up alongside the ambulance. The officer inside steps out of his cruiser with his sidearm drawn. "Hands! Let me see your hands!" He shouts. The young man cries something back. "Drop it! Drop the gun!" The officer orders. A second siren approaches from the other side of the street. Followed by a third. The first officer continues to shout commands for the young man to drop his gun. She hears two more police cars pull up, but only the first officer shouts commands. Likely to avoid overwhelming the young man.
"Don't do it!" Another voice shouts. "No! No! You can't take me back!" The young man screams. "The door! The door! I won't go back!" There's the sound of a gunshot, quickly followed by two others from one of the officers on the other side of the road. Asuka hears a thud, and metal clattering to the asphalt. The young man cries out in shock, pain, and horror. One of the officers comes over the radio to state that the suspect is down. Asuka waits for the officers to approach, and give the all clear before she, and her partner rush to aid the young man.
As she's doing her best to treat the sobbing young man, she hears one of the officers nearby take a shuddering breath. "F-fuck. I didn't want to shoot him." An older voice responds. "Did what you had to. Stay strong, son."
The moment they get the young man onto the stretcher, and tied down Asuka's ambulance rushes to the hospital. From what Asuka can tell, the bullets he took didn't hit anything vital. He should survive. Now, she'll apply a sedative, so that hopefully, he won't cause problems for the hospital staff when they arrive.
