Tality searches the exchanged information for their theories about the structure of the universe, her eyes widen in surprise as she reads and then crumble in disappointment, and she sighs. "The universe is infinite and constantly changing. Nothing exists and yet nothing needs to exist. Time is navigable, but not metatime, not to us." "Timelines are like a marble run, and we're the marbles. Well, not really, but you run different marbles down the timeline, different actors playing the same characters, and it turns out different, and it makes the timelines grow and change." She taps on her device and a hologram appears to show timelines branching and merging, diverging and converging, braiding together like rope or vines. "Timelines don't simply diverge, they converge, too. Universes that are slightly different become the same, and strengthen and reinforce each other. No timeline is ever alone ... except mine. I have no home timeline to anchor me. I don't affect timeline braids, I affect single timelines, single, infinitisemal threads amongst the infinite braid. These apocalypses happened with or without me, and I know this because I've charted the timelines that go on without me." Tality's map expands to show separate trees of time. An entire grove of multiverses. "This is what the universe looks like to me, but it doesn't look this way to you. Our methods of travel, revealing different parts of the universe's structure. You can't go where I go -- the nightmares and leviathans would eat your minds, mine just grows back from nothing -- and I can't go where you go. That's just the way it is." "I just hoped ... maybe you'd met another being like me. Or maybe one day you will, and you'll be able to tell them they're not alone." Tality turns off her device and starts to leave, not believing there's much more to be gained by staying. "I'm sorry, humans are the reason I never knew my mother, the reason why my people died. Normally, I could look past that, but I'm near the end of my rope already. Maybe if you catch me on a better day, I'd be more up to talking. But I'm not going to continue to defend myself before the species that ground mine into dust."
