Though I don't normally advertise it publicly (people, or maybe I should say ponies heeyuk on this site are pretty chill with it though, compared to IRL public and other social sites). I won't state why here to avoid that flame war, only through dms. I wouldn't know if I'd call it a.....condition, as that tends to lean towards the medical side of it which....is obsessed with trying to find ways of "dealing" with it, as opposed to finding it's strengths and empowering those with it. Rather, maybe I'd look at it more as a skill set! You'll want to learn EVERYTHING about your obsession, which changes from time to time, which can make you a widely learned and intelligent person! You probably find it hard, if not impossible, to lie convincingly. Is that because we aspie's can't? Nope, it's because we don't see the need to willingly buy into myths, I guess you could call it, just to go along with the crowd. Which reminds me: We are TERRIBLE at following the crowd. Do we try? Sometimes, it's a learning experience. Are we particularly good at it? Not at all. We get found out we're different from everyone else and targeted for it eventually. It's easier, and better, if you carve your own path from the outset. Some of us are good at masking, pretending to be non-autistic and survive in the NT-dominated world out there (And sometimes on the internet too sadly). getting better at it as the years go on. Is that a skill that should be developed at all? Not particularly, as it's draining, mentally and physically. It's the need to hide that particular facet, big or small depending on how you see it, of who you are for however long you engage with the wider world or, more specifically, with NT's who don't understand us, and have no plan on doing so (Which my experience are most of them, those with next to no interactions with AS people). I'd say it's more of a survival skill, than a regular skill I guess, though I do hope that one day, we'll wake up to a world were masking will no longer be needed. And those are just the one's that are off the top of my head!
