Hey Abby here! I'm about to turn this entire blog post over to Pinkie, because honestly I'm pretty rankled about the contents of this blog and what I have to say is going to come out not so nice! And we all know that Pinkie can handle anything in the sweetest manner! But before I turn it over, I am dedicating this letter to Darren Cuffs, Cally Ber, myself, and any other current or future police officer roleplayers! Because we're collectively tired of your shit. You're killing our OC's. To DEATH.
Anyhow, I'll let Pinks take it away!
Hey Pinkie Pie here with a super special cool awesome service announcement! Abby asked me to take this one because all the naughty bad words she wanted to say would probably have broken the blog hehe! But I TOTALLY get where she's coming from, because I know ALL about fanfiction! Fanfiction can be good, but sometimes it's very VERY bad! Why? Cause people JUST can't WRITE well!
Everyone deserves a chance to get better though! No one deserves to be shunned or ostrich...ossified....OSTRACIZED! That's it! Ostracized for bad writing! Not the FIRST time at least! They need a chance to improve! And I'm here to help you with that! See what Abby and many other people are concerned about is the presence of Oh Pee characters! Mary Sues they call them! I don't even KNOW who Mary Sue is, which is amazing since I know EVERY pony, so she must be someone so terrible she never sees the light of day she was such a meanie! But from what I've heard, if you're a Mary Sue character you're NO FUN to interact with! Isn't that TERRIBLE? Why would you want to be like that? I'd want to change myself to be more fun!
Abby left me a list here, and I think she was outlining some of the problems with Oh Pee characters...let's see...first we have...one-shotters...she has them defined as...people who take out someone else's character in one hit without even asking the other person, or making an attempt to hit! Wait...you mean...like someone just...HITS your character without...checking to make sure? But that doesn't make any SENSE? What if your characters have a matched skill level when they're fighting? I mean SURE if you've agreed before hand that one character or the other gets hit, WHAPOW! But just knocking someone's character out or hitting them for sure without checking? That's terrible and makes no sense! That'd mean your character never misses! That reminds me of a meme I saw...wait what?
Sorry I just got a message from our sponsors saying I'm not allowed to use that meme. Awh! Anyway, I think that's terrible! You should always either plan a fight beforehand-talk with the person you're fighting with to determine the outcome-or make your character ATTEMPT attacks instead of declaring they hit, giving the other person ample time to react if they can! Doesn't that sound like SO much more fun???
HMmmmm let's see...next she has...godmodders! Ohhhhhh I know about these! These are the guys that absolutely REFUSE to get hit! You could toss a whole PLANET and they somehow avoid it! They're big smelly meanies! I can't understand why they don't take a hit every now and then! I mean if you get hit you can get hurt, and getting hurt means you get bandages and casts, and you can get the pretty bandages with the kitty faces on them! Ooh oooh and everyone writes on your cast, saying nice things about you! Or drawing funny memes! And you get a free pass to binge watch Neighflix and eat ice cream and do NOTHING productive! Doesn't that sound SO fun! Pinkie could even come spend all day with you! And besides, what's the fun of playing with someone who NEVER gets hit? You know how everyone battle is going to end-you lose! Doesn't sound like a fair fight worth even fighting!
Lets see...and lastly we have...overpowered character designs? What could that me....oh! Oh. So like...when you're a demon-possessed son of a powerful emperor who married a....super-cool....monarch? Like a butterfly? OH! NO like a Princess?
Well...that's just silly. I think they have a joke for this...uhm....overcompensating much? Making your character have a TON of crazy things about them doesn't make them cool you know! You playing them well makes them cool! You can just be a regular bug that loves hugs, a stay-at-home mom who's actually demon-possessed, or a regular beat cop who's just trying to do their job, and still be an amazing, beloved character! You don't need to be able to turn into a dragon, juggle flaming knives, use forbidden jutsu, and have a backstory that belongs in Neighponese film to be fun! Simple and clean can be just as cool! Try it sometime, trust me!
I think that's all the time I have for today and I think I covered all Abby's points more nicer than she would have! More nice? More nicely? Whatever! Anyhow, just remember that if you are one of these people that fits on these lists of things, people are likely to not want to interact with you and you're gonna have a hard time making friends! Isn't that terrible? Don't you want to be friends and have fun with everyone? I know I do! Make sure you're not Oh Pee or a Mary Sue!

I have yet to come across a OP Situation. Seeing that they seem to stick out obviously and I tend to cut ties pretty quick when the signs show. Now what I see more often than not.. Not too sure if OP would be in the context of for example of forced insertion.. Or insta-all I like to call it. Rough... View More

// I feel ya there. Magic can take the drama/seriousness out of a situation. Hell, even as Sol, I try to avoid using magic for situation and dude is probably the most OP cuck out there (basically Celestia, but doesn't just sit there and do nothing). I even used a curtain to help patch up a wound Art... View More

Yeh magic is tough. Especially in action RP like where I like to specialize. Like an earlier commentor said, make sure the drawback is equal to the strength. Done right, it's a good design philosophy.

You see, I really don't like healing magic like you guys and gals. Like you said, it makes the result of the fight less interesting and adds no form of dialogue that could have been built around the injury. Not only that, but there are also those that could be so OP with magic that they just break t... View More
