I have done my fair share of Pathfinders but that works best in a tight session setting where everyone is in sync and information about the rules, other player ideas, and combat strategy can be quickly transferred without slowing down the game. On a forum where everyone is on their own schedule I say keep it simple. Defiantly be able and willing to talk to players in order to get them on the same page as everyone else. As long as you have disciplined rpers you should be good. Im all for having some form of random check, say roll a certain die and screenshot the result, but overall the less numbers you have to keep track of the better.

//Not sure if this story will get off the ground but lets give this a go, worth the risk if its a good story. Name: Pinprick Race: Unicorn Sex: Female Age: Late 20s...no set number Occupation: Street level Criminal. Works as a enforcer to ruff up ponies for bits. Appearance: Light green coat with darker green hair. Attached a outline so just imagine the colors. Cutie Mark: Bullseye target in front of a throwing knife Personality: Street smart with a good head to read ponies even if she doesnt read actual books. A simple pony who is content with the pursuit of earthly pleasures. Snippy and bold, she has built up a tough persona which has gradually just become her actual self. By default relies on herself for everything she needs but is happy to have others help as long as they dont expect much in return. Background: A troubled kid from a early age she never felt very sure about her place in the world. Her parents tried to help but with no serious health effects and with no other problems then something all ponies go through they thought that giving her some space and not treating her like something was wrong was the best approach. This worked for the most part until her mother left. The blow hit the whole family hard and Pinprick took off to try and figure things out herself. She found herself in Fillidelphia and quickly began hanging out with the wrong crowd. Pick pocketing turned to muggings which turned to robberies and with her clique feeding off each other and luck going their way they became more emboldened. Eventually they all had to grow up and while a lot of them stayed in the underground scene they did eventually lose that magic spark that holds friends together. Pinprick found herself taking pay gigs as a enforcer thanks to her skills with throwing knives that she use to practice in her teenage years.
For centuries, Equestria has stood as one of the most prosperous nations in the known world. In spite of the hardships that threatened to break the nation apart long ago, ponykind has managed to band together to form a strong nation under the joint rule of the cosmic Princesses. That is not, however, to say that the nation has had its fair share of threats. History has told us of Nightmare Moon, of Discord and Tirek, of the mad Storm King and his legion. History has told us of the once-great changeling swarm, of the proud dragons, of the nomadic zebras and stubborn yaks. For the past few years, a group of six friends have stood as Equestria's greatest heroes. Time after time they have been called upon to quiet threats of dissent, of the deconstruction of harmony, to combat threats to the crown, and to defend friendships. While historians may argue that the last point may be somewhat out there compared to the gravity of the other three, it is truthfully the most important of them all, as without the magic of friendship and harmony, it is believed that Equestria could have been lost to the frozen wastes before its founding. But what of the rest of Equestria? Yes, everypony knows of the adventures of Twilight Sparkle, her friends, and the Elements of Harmony. But theirs are not the only stories to be told. Legends of Equestria is a roleplay that takes place during the events of FiM, rather than as a continuation. My intent is for this page to be something of a hub for multiple roleplays, all of which take place in different locations within Equestria (the idea behind this is trying to mitigate any sort of contrivance for why ponies would be in a specific location or would be friends with other ponies). Establish your own OC, take them on adventures in a certain location or neighboring areas. Use the variable location as an excuse to experiment with new character ideas. Go on daring adventures, or solve interpersonal relations at home. Be creative. Most importantly, what matters is that you all have fun. Legends of Equestria is meant to accommodate players looking for any sort of play, so if you're worried that your character may be too violent or stay-at-home for the available adventures, you don't have to worry, because there's a good chance there'll be a play coming soon just for you.
I'm pleased to announce that the first play has been opened up for business. Seeking a Trixie as far as canons are concerned, but I can play her if nopony is up to the role. Ask me about other canons and I'll be happy to discuss how they may be in the area to help. https://canterlotavenue.com/forum/thread/32/legends-of-equestria-the-performers-pride-slice-of-life-acting-within-rolep/

If there's something that needs to be done, she's been involved in enough incidents to keep a level head. Her life in the upper class has given her a knack for ordering others around; she doesn't like to use it, but she knows how to keep ponies organized.

Background:

“‘I quattro’ refers to both the four magical elements ponykind can manipulate, and to the four hooves all ponies have,” Fleur told her, taking careful steps around Sweetie Belle, her hooves moving one in front of the other like a cat walking along a line of rope. “The description is somewhat deceptive: it means, ‘without the four hooves; with the four elements.’ Grace, poise, movement and magic are used to defend oneself against the more brutish forms of dueling.”

Fleur Iris - or as the world knows her, Fleur-de-lis - is known throughout Equestria as one of the finest models to come out of Canterlot. As far as most ponies know, Fleur had been raised from birth surrounded by beauty all her life, her mother and grandmother being models in their respective times. During her childhood, Fleur attended several private schools, tutored by some of the best professors around, and started her modeling career at the age of 17.

While these events are indeed true, what the public eye is unaware of is that during her school years, Fleur had also received a significant amount of training in magic; one of her teachers, Lady Prima Donna, began to teach her how to defend herself, teaching her a style of fighting that she knew would best fit the mare given her career - a form of dueling that shied away from the brute force or arcane magics, instead placing emphasis on constant motion, an unbreakable focus, a creative mind, and grace, the I Quattro Elementi.

“You must always think on your hooves,” Fleur said, resuming her circuit around Sweetie as she practiced. “Be nimble of mind and body, and graceful as well. Lady Prima Donna invented the style so that she could look good while winning, and not simply standing in place and straining away at one huge spell or another. As such, the wise filly must be ready to adapt to her circumstances and watch for an opening. Then, when that opening presents itself, you strike without warning.”

Even after her intellectual pursuits had ceased and her career as a model had begun, Fleur continued to practice with Prima Donna in her spare time, the mare quickly picking up on the intricacies of the style and winning her first arranged duel at the age of 19. Even now Fleur continues to practice under Lady Prima's tutelage, however her talents have managed to catch the eye of certain members of Canterlot nobility, who have approached her asking for her protection. Rarely is combat necessary for these "bodyguard" assignments, the mare typically just standing around and accompanying whoever she was hired to protect. Still during her fifteen years as both a duelist and model, Fleur has seen quite a bit, and has won and lost a number of duels.

I've got a little bit of experience with both, and I know that MLP adaptations of tabletop games exist out there. That said, would you be looking for dice rolls and statsheets, or just general ideas? Regardless, I recommend sticking with Freeform roleplay, *just* because of the differences in power levels between characters. That said, if the other roleplay going on in this forum is any indication, I believe that, as a DM, you should have a right to say "no, that doesn't happen" if someone suggests/posts something that could take the campaign into a nosedive, or put it to a dice roll if it sounds plausible. So, maybe a loosely regulated freeform sort of play?
Princess Celestia and Princess Luna are requesting volunteers to assist the Royal Guard in exploring and securing the area. Not much is know yet about where or what this 'rediscovered' kingdom could be. All that is know is that your princesses need your help. [u] Princess Luna-Skycoaster Lt. .Post in Hunters of the Everfree
It's been 128 years since the Everfree Forest covered all of Equestria, leaving it in ruins. By now the ponies have adapted to this world, and with so little of them left that are civilized, they formed a special group of ponies called hunters, whose specialty is to navigate Equestria and learn about new creatures, and new plants. They also or in charge of defending what is left of their fragile civilization and even bringing a message from another village. The qualifications to become a hunter are quite simple, you must be able to last through the difficult academy and have the mark of the hunter. The mark of the hunter is obtained by tracking down and killing the alpha of a species, this is usually given to you at the end of the academy as your final exam. The mark of the hunter is usually the footprint of the creature you killed with the weapon you used plastered over it. And this is where the rp starts, a week after the final exam and you're all hunters. It would only be so long that something bad would happen make everyone go on one big adventure. The plot will be given out once it actually starts. Anyways you already know the basic rp rules but I only have one big rule no alicorns. There are a few guns like blunderbus or an m1 garand but they have to be old timey. All creature marks (at the moment) Alpha Timber Wolf: a wolf print but with sharper toes. Alpha Oak Bear: really sharp bear claws. Alpha Cockatrice: a grey stone eye. Alpha Chimera: Goat horns Alpha Manticore: lions mane Alpha Treecorn: a horn shaped like a piece of wood. (A Treecorn is a unicorn infected by the Ever virus a virus that only affects unicorns turning them into rage filled creatures there is no way to cure it as of the moment) Here is the application Name: Race: Gender: Age: (18 to 45) Appearance: Apparel: Hunter's mark: (its your cutiemark...I will leave a description of each creature mark) Weapon: (try to keep it related to your hunter mark...for instance if your mark has a knife, think of short light weapons) Personality: Backstory: (basically your reason for becoming a hunter) Other: anything else.

.Post in OOC: Crosswood's Place
For a while now, I've been thinking of starting a casual, location-based thread [s]shamelessly ripping off[/s] heavily influenced by Callahan's from Spider Robinson's collection of stories. For those unfamiliar with it {and diving straight into the adapted version of it}, the basic premise is of a seemingly ordinary bar oft visited by individuals of, shall we say, varying ordinariness. A place where everyone is accepted, whoever or whatever they might be, and may bring their troubles with them, and hopefully leave with a few less. A place where puns flow as readily as the drinks and strange stories are told as often as they take place. The Rules Of The Thread: Absolutely no violence - this is a hard rule, and any posts to the contrary will be godmodded right out of the thread, and I may even ask a moderator to remove the offending post {it's up to them whether or not to do so, though}. You may PM me for permission, but unless there's a hell of a story it's going to facilitate, it's highly unlikely I'd give it. While the original Callahan's stories are pretty casual about, shall we say, physical affection, let's avoid any explicitly sexual content. Implying stuff is all cool, but this is a thread for all ages. What happens at Crosswood's doesn't have to stay at Crosswood's - if anyone wants to make a spinoff thread, go to town - we'll be looking forward to hearing about it afterwards. As much as I am a fan of princess Luna, the Night Will Not Actually Last Forever - after a while {in-character time, that is}, the bar will close and reopen the next evening. If popular opinion wills it, after a while we may even timeskip a couple of weeks or months. You can be a newcomer or an old-time regular - if you want to be the latter, PM me and we'll go over the backstory. If you're the former, we'll see how well I can manage playing multiple characters. The Rules Of The Bar: Shared pain is lessened. Shared joy is increased. Puns are encouraged only because because they can't be made mandatory. While people may often open up about their troubles, unlike dancing, prying is forbidden. If someone is caught prying, they will often have a close encounter with a blackjack and ejected into the parking lot. They are more welcome to come back in, though - Crosswood keeps plenty of Aspirin in the first aid box under the bar. Most days there is a Contest - the tallest tale, puzzle or riddle winner or worst pun of the evening drinks free. Not the first day of the thread, really, I can only handle so much {and lemme tell you, the much ain't much. I am open to suggestions, even!} If a person wants to share something with the rest of the bar, be it their troubles or their thoughts, it's traditional to throw their glass into the fireplace - it's curved so the glass doesn't fly as much. After that, they have the floor, and everyone's attention. Have fun!
