In theory, it should be possible to provide Pegasus and Earth ponies with an implement allowing them to do magic.

I wouldn't encourage it.

"Clear example of science going too far. I'm just saying it would be possible. It probably wouldn't be ethical, and I'm certain ponies would die as a result."

Unicorn Horns. How do they work? There are no stupid answers.

I guess another example of evidence to unicorns having a mana pool is that when unicorns lifted both the sun and moon, they burned themselves out permanently. They couldn't just gain more arcane stuff from the world around and only got their magic back when Tia and Luna gave them a refill.

"Unicorn horns work because the Unicorn is born of a couple of parents, whether they, themselves, are Unicorns aren't entirely relevant. Magic would run in the family, as does a flight gene if one parent, or grandparent, had either wings or a horn." Artemis started before coughing slightly, continu... View More

I think we should start with the absolute basics. Levitation. How do you think it works? In theory could non-unicorn / non-alicorn ponies do levitation somehow? Are there limits on the size, and do t... View More

I for one have always believed that unicorn magic has always been possible for the other races; in this case, the reason other ponies aren't normally seen practicing magic in this manner is because of the components of a spell; namely, that most (not all) spells require a spoken incantation, an unco... View More

Since all ponies have gotten accustomed to horned ponies being the only ones capable of firing magical blasts or levitation, it is unlikely that ponykind knows spellcasting is possible for other races. I'm going into theorycrafting for all of this, but I've always imagined that the use of a horn not... View More

Hmmm. Maybe starting with levitation is actually a bit too much of a step. It's important to understand the essence of magic. What is magic and why can we perform it in the first place?

As for limitations, observation has shown that there are two major factors in how strenuous a levitation spell is - the weight of the objects being controlled, and the number of objects that can be levitated at once. Most unicorns are seen carrying one or two objects at most, only in the case of the... View More

PB: As far as i know of it levitation lifts objects of any size granted that the pony has enough magic or magic capabilities. For example a pencil could be heavy to one when using levitation whereas somepony else could handle up to an ursa minor. Could this be applied to those without a horn? Probab... View More

That's a very good point. I'm not very well-versed in anatomy, but it would be interesting to know what anatomical structures allow for magic in horned-creatures.

Levitation may be basic and easy to perform, but it raises some interesting questions about properties of the physical universe and the world we live in. I have a hypothesis that there are other life-sustaining worlds similar to ours that have different properties. If levitation requires an actual p... View More
