A tundra of endless snow, flanked by a continent-wide mountain range. For many, it was simply a route to the Crystal Empire, but for the members of the Frozen North Explorer's League, it was home.
Inside a small, crowded, but organized office, Everest sits at his desk. In front of him sits an ancient, frail piece of parchment. The script on the parchment is barely legible, and appears to be in a language long since lost. He's hoping to glean some sort of information from the parchment before he sends it off to Canterlot for more intricate study.
As Everst goes to gingerly tuck the parchment into a folder, the sound of his handheld radio crackling to life from his bedside table causes him to jolt. He's thankful he didn't end up damaging the parchment in the process.
"Need help!----- like an ocean! Our craft can't-----. Coordinates are 34-.4 by -21.-! Can anyone?!- Please!"
Everest quickly, but carefully packs the parchment back into it's folder before grabbing his radio, pack, and exiting his office. It seems most of the others are already preparing to head out.
Without a word to each other, Everest, and 3 other members of the explorer's league exit the warmth of their cozy headquarters, and head outside. There, they enter a newly acquired, experimental sno-cat, which they'd received from Canterlot only a month prior. This sno-cat was like nothing any of them had ever seen before, but they were going to need it where they were going.
As the sno-cat departs from the headquarters, the first to speak is the driver. He's a dragon-pony hybrid, and is one of the league's few mechanics. "You guys heard the coordinates, right?" The others all respond affirmatively. The next to speak is one of the league's security team. "Yeah. If there are people out in the shifting snow tundra, I doubt we'll get there in time. Even if we do, we probably won't be able to get out there to them." At this, the cabin goes silent. As much as they want to think otherwise, they know this is likely true.
The Shifting Snow Tundra was an abnormality in the Frozen North. A wide expanse of snow, which acted more like an ocean, than a tundra. From afar, you wouldn't be able to tell it was there, but once you were inside, it was as if Poseidon himself had made it his personal mission to drown you in the snow. Land-based craft were usually swallowed whole, and never seen again, but sometimes, they managed to hold out for a while.
This is what the new sno-cat was for. With experimental, arcane technology from the most advanced magical research company in Equestria, this sno-cat should theoretically, be able to traverse the shifting snow tundra. If it can do that, then maybe, just maybe, they can save whoever it is who's trapped in there. #rp
