She grins, di... View MoreHymn was going through her things shes collected over the years, and stumbles upon one of her much older items, a group painting, of what seems to be... a pirate crew? With Hymn in it?? She grins, digging a bit deeper to uncover her old cutlass, pulling it out of the box carefully, she'd slowly unwrap it, closing her eyes as memories wash over her. Her old crewmate's songs echoing out of her memories and then out of her own throat. Singing an old sea shanty. "The sky was grey and cloudy And the wind was from the west When we spied a battered frigate With her tattered sail full dressed They signaled they had letters home They asked if we could take They dropped them in a barrel They left bobbing in their wake. We reefed the sails and slowed the ship To fish they barrel out The old ship sailed to the distance And we saw her come about The captain watched through a spy-glass And we heard him catch his breath And we saw the storm a-brewing Had become a wall of death!" (The song is The Flying Dutchman) She never really got on that old ship, but she loved it dearly. And she loved that crew dearly, they were like family to her. Her heart ached as she leaned into the box again, pulling out each of the things they had left her. An old, rusting spyglass, from the navigator, a pretty pegasus mare named Aquila (the eagle constellation), a carved figure of herself, from the cabin boy, a young pegasus colt by the name of Harpy. A picture of a slightly chubby mare, the cook, named Gentle Simmer, Hymn blushed, remembering all those old games theyd used to play, she admittedly used to have a crush on the mare. A bottle of brandy, a brand long out of business, and still sealed. She chuckled. "Oh Wheat Shot, always the kidder." Wheat Shot was the helmstallion, steering the ship. A flaking book, the title long faded, but she remembered it fondly. This was the first book she had ever read, and the previous owner left it to her, only requesting she continue to love it dearly. She opened it, reading the deeply faded note on the inside. 'Hymn, my last request to you, my dear friend, is that you continue to learn everything you possibly can, and please dont give up on that wonderful dream of yours. I hope someday, you succeed. Your good friend, Calligraphy.' She shut the book then, laying it to the side again. Finally, she pulls out something that almost made her choke up. A moth eaten captain's hat, the feather that used to sit in it gone for a long time now. And with it was a painting of a winking mare, her features strong, and a hoof was pulling the previous hat down at an angle, obscuring half of her face. "Hello again, captain. I miss you dearly, my friend. I never did find that friend of yours, I hope you forgive me. Its getting hard out here, Merry Weather. I hope I've done you and the rest of the crew proud." She blinked away tears, placing a hoof against the frame, she'd smile fondly.
