I have a character idea but want your opinion. How might a were-wolf pony, or were bear pony, work? I don't know if timber wolves can even spread disease in the MLP universe.

I'm sure there are normal wolves in Equestria. And with spells like the one Twilight used to turn ponies into Breezies, or magical interactions like- as Hawk mentioned- Flutterbat, lycanthropy or anything line it oesn't really need to be a disease transmitted by the actual animals at all.

Timberwolf-pony could be a cool idea. I'd imagine they'd grow in size, get more shaggy fur, grow sharper teeth, elements of their body turn to wood, eyes would go a glowing green, and I'd say grow wooden claws but ponies don't have fingers.

Also, Windigos is an option if that monster can revert to normal form whenever it wants, which it probably can't from what little knowledge O have of that particular creture.

Windigos seem to be ancient spirits that absorb hate. I don't think a pony could change between a spirit(something dead) and a normal form. You might be able to make it work, but it might also have to be significantly shrunk, cause they're typically pictured as quite large.
