You have may thought that the winds of time have taken me away from this place, and while its true that time has a way of driving us in all directions we will always try to be here to help. This time we'd like to talk about setting. Setting provides the backdrop for your character's story. It can provide technology, canon relationships, canon events to provide time and size. Or political backdrops to give your character interesting situations to stick you and your RP partners within. When choosing a setting a few questions may help you come to a conclusion. Does the setting of where my character lives have any special meaning to them? How does the setting influence the character's daily life? Does the character serve a role within the setting, be it purposely or accidentally? How does the setting react to my character? Does it even recognize my character as a part of it or am I merely a speck within a larger sea? Was my character originally from a place that is different from the setting that they now find themselves?
The example being of Rarity and how she seems to hold the big city in her heart despite living within the small town of Ponyville. This comes out in the way she chooses to talk to ponies or even her career echoes those ties to the big city. When she is placed into the city you can see her flourish and sometimes even struggle due to how long shes been away from such an environment.
So what setting is your character from? What setting do they find themselves now? How does the setting influence your character? I look forward to seeing your answers and discussion.
