One good thing about Cookie being in school now was that Nar could run boring errands without having to bore her to death by bringing her with him. Today's errand was a shopping run to grab everything he needs to make dinner for the next few nights. With only 10 minutes before school lets out, he glides into his driveway atop his rollerblades, and hurries to the front door. He can barely hold his excitement as he fumbles for his keys to unlock the door. He's going to make omurice tonight! It's one of Cookie's favorites!
The key slips into the lock, and Nar twists it right to unlock it. His excitement vanishes when he doesn't feel any resistance from the lock. Which means, it was already unlocked. He knows he locked it after he left. Something isn't right. Nar pulls out his phone, and quickly calls the guards. After informing them that he thinks his house has been broken into, he's told guards are on the way, and to get a safe distance from the house. Of course, against the advice of the dispatcher, Nar goes to make a seep around his house. Just in case.
Pulling the axe he uses for his expeditions into the AHS from his satchel, he begins a slow sweep along the side of his house. As discretely as he can, he peers into each window, looking for any signs of an intruder. All looks clear, until he manages to look into his kitchen.
His cookware has been laid out on the counter. It looks as though someone is finishing up making some sort of dish. Thoughts swirl in Nar's mind as he tries to rationalize what's going on. It couldn't be his father, or Asuka. They would have told him if they wanted to come over to make food for them. Not Juno either. He wouldn't do something like this, and he'd let Nar know if he was going to anyway.
A rush of fiery rage dashes his thoughts as a figure steps into view. Dressed in modest clothes with a cooking apron, and her hair in a bun, Aki opens the oven to remove what looks to be cookies from within. Before he can act on his anger, Nar quickly retreats from his house, and finds a place out of view to stand on the sidewalk. He doesn't remember much of what happens next. At some point, the guards arrive, and Nar somehow manages to avoid telling them what he saw. Some time later, Aki is dragged from the house, kicking, screaming, thrashing, and begging. When she spots Nar, she begins to cry out to him. "Please! Nar! Give me another chance! I'll be better! I-I can be a good mom for Cookie!" Nar still wonders how he managed to keep from blowing up on her at that moment.
Once Aki has been carted off by the guards, Nar grabs his phone to make a call to his sister. "What's up, Dingus?" She answers casually. "Asuka." Nar's response is quiet, low, and shaky. His simmering anger practically seeping through the phone. "Can you pick up Cookie from school for me?" He doesn't need to elaborate. Asuka's tone becomes much more serious, but still soft. "Yeah. I will. We'll look after Cookie for you. You take your time with whatever you're dealing with." "Thanks." Then, Nar hangs up the call, and stuffs his phone into his satchel. He needs some time alone to process his emotions before they boil over. He can't so much as look at his house without feeling disgusted, so he'll go to the next best place. After making sure all the appliances in the kitchen are off so his house doesn't burn down, Nar locks his house, and heads down the street where he knows the nears Astral Highway door is. There, he can be alone for a while without being bothered.
Opening the door, Nar steps beyond the threshold into the AHS.
