Welcome to this year's Nightmare Night Roleplay Event!
We are so excited to have a relaunch of our PR team with a new event that we know you all will enjoy. This year we have chosen to start simple, so this year's event there will not be a competition of any kind. Simply, we have chosen to do a Nightmare Night Festival RP event, in which the only requirements we have to receive our participation badge, is that you read through our initial prompt and choose your own path out of the descriptions provided in said prompt and reply to the thread with a roleplay post, which must contain some form of ending in it. You can make it as long as you so desire, however, entries that seem to be incomplete will not be considered for a participation badge. Putting in the effort is key! Once you have read the prompt, we require that you copy and paste our starter into your post, to help us see which direction you have taken with your post, and as well as to make your post be more cohesive, rather than just having a post with a continuation with no prior context attached.
Here is the event prompt:
"You feel it in the air - spookening is upon us! As you venture down the leaf-covered road, a tingle slithers down your being as the surrounding forest gives way to a more rural-looking landscape. Pausing, you take it in - the vast swathe of dilapidated farmlands, overgrown cornfields, the dusty dirt path leading onto the property, and up to...a massive, old-era manor house. The property’s very presence is noticeably heavy, but not unpleasant, given the time of year and your desire to experience something scary, and it appears you’re not alone!
The curiosity grows as you notice it. In the rugged courtyard, groups of ponies move about, going in between set up game booths ranging from apple bobbing to haybale tossing. A few others calmly enter and exit the cornfield to the left, confirmed by the occasional heads of jumping ponies peeking over. Still more enter, and run screaming out of, the looming manor beyond. Taking in the vast selection of attractions, you come to the realization that anyone would marvel at just how broad of a setup this haunted house truly has. So many choices for the scariest of nights!"
This event will begin today, ending on the 1st of November at 2:00 AM Central Time US. Please ensure to adjust for your own time zones.
As a tl;dr
To get a participation badge for the event, you must:
-Read the prompt
-Choose an activity from the prompt (Or do all activities if preferred)
-Copy & Paste the starter INTO the reply box for this thread
-Add the rest of your story to the post you will be submitting (Must include an ending)
We hope that you have a great time and we look forward to seeing your posts!

Sivanro and Sheep decide to go to the mansion for this was their first nightmare night event they have ever seen. "So what I heard from Polo is that every year most species celebrate some sort of scary event during the end of October." Sivanro said as he walked to the front door and opens it for Sheep only for a fake cutout of a ghost to cause Sheep to get frightened before Sivanro rolls his eyes and walked in. " Really, they couldn't get some one in a zombie costume or use an illusion spell to make it seem more living?" Sivanro said as Sheep walked closely to him as someone in a a suit of armor tiphoof behind them before taping Sivanro on the wing then, within a few second the person remove the helmet showing Needle Thread chuckling in silence for he is mute. "Hey dude don't touch the wings." Sivanro was about to swing before a photo of Needle Thread and Polo together at the costume shop with the words 'thanks for the photo cousin' in Polo hoof writing. "OOOOH your the person that helps with my dad clothes, how are you doing?" Needle Thread smiles and shakes his head up and down like he was enjoying seeing some of his costume being used.
A few minutes later, all three of them walked upstairs as Sheep had part of the carpet in it mouth actively chewing on it. "I would of put on a costume but, no point when me and Sheep look weird enough and also don't want to have people ask what I am dress up as." They travel most of the manor as Sheep was falling for a few jump scares as, Sivanro smiled from the attempts while Needle silently laughs a bit from how Sheep is reacting. The group made it to the back of the manor as Sheep was shaking in fear before Needle gave it a pat on the back causing Sheep to relax a bit from the manor. "Well, this is a fun holiday maybe next year we can hang out at the shop." The moment Sivanro said that Needle eyes light up with joy as he shakes his hoof and walked to one of the stands. Sheep started to fall asleep as Sivanro put it on his back and headed home

*PB would be dressed up in her knight costume she had on hoof at home and had gone with her best friend Marshmallow Shine, a baby dragon who looked dressed as a witch. They decided to go to the haybale tossings as they wanted to avoid the haunted house due to the criticism they'd probably give on it for realism. PB had joined in the haybale tossing as she kept tossing higher and higher until she couldn't anymore and hit the bar barely missing her face when it landed. Once done then Marshmallow and her went to the cornfield. They entered the maze talking about their lives and days as they kind of got lost before finding their way out. They stopped part of the way to the area for apple bobbing to ease Marshmallow's head on the mental map of the corn maze that she made after they left. When Marshmallow was ok PB was given a dare to see how many apples she could bob for compared to a normal mare. In the end the two were kicked out of the property for bobbing too many apples and nearly ruining the fun for other ponies and creatures around.*

Anarchy decided to just make her own fun and add a little chaos to the mix to the surprise of literally no pony.
After doing that she promptly disguises herself as a regular pony and joins in the festivities from doing the apple bobbing then tossing some haybales around. As for the chaos she added, she simply added a few living cardboard zombie ponies to chase around most of the other ponies there as she figured it was funny.
It didn't take long for her to be discovered and because nobody wanted to feel her wrath by kicking her out they were forced to let her be...

Dragonfly having been off world doing deliveries during the time of Nightmare night had never experienced one of the Nightmare Night festivals held during the time of the event. He wanted to first watch and get a feel for what the night was about and how it was celebrated before participating in any of the activities. He watched as ponies ran out of the manor screaming and giggling and wondered why they thought it fun to be scared. He watched them walk away from the game booths with prizes after doing various activities, it looked fun but he didn't have a need for ay stuffed animals. He would find the cornfield maze interesting and would decide to enter.
He had only ever heard of mazes, even back home on his planet. Back home they were used as security for prisons so it interested him that one would be considered fun to navigate here in Equestria. He would step through the marked entrance and start to get lost in it trying to find the exit. He was tall enough to see over easily but he would duck his head down a but to keep it fun and not cheat. He knew he could hug a wall but that would be too easy, his reasoning for getting himself lost initially. He would take turn after turn keeping track in his head where he went. He would smile at the ponies passing him, a few asking for help to see the exit and some running thinking he was part of the attraction. He would eventually find his way out of the maze with a big smile. He really enjoyed it and was glad he decided to take part in the activity. He was even more excited to go do all the other activities and happily did so, enjoying all that Nightmare Night had to offer.

Dolly and Maishi (dressed as Little Red Riding Hood & the Big Bad Wolf respectively) had been taking a stroll through the forest, a small picnic basket balanced on Dolly’s back, secured with a strap and a saddlebag on the other side. Maishi was laughing about something when they both stopped and stared at the scene in awe. How’d they get here? Maishi turned to glance back at the forest behind them, before turning back to Dolly and grinning widely. “May as well join in the fun, right?”
Dolly nods, starting to walk forward with Maishi behind her. They stopped at the game booths, and Maishi won at some of the games, giving Dolly the prizes won. Ranging from a goldfish to a somewhat large stuffed animal (a manticore), a few small plushies (a parrot, a Ursa Major and Minor, and a very small, comical looking narwhal). As well as other assorted small prizes. All except the large prizes were placed in the empty saddlebag, and Maishi carried the manticore.
They decided to enter the corn maze, where they got lost several times. Dolly getting scared of the jump scares, and sticking close to Maishi’s side. When they got out, they were getting weary, and decided to rest at the edge of the activities and stargazing.

Aset looks over the surroundings, with a twitch of her eye. Unlike the ponies, she isn't there for the attractions, no. In fact, she was sure there would be nobody here. She is there for one thing only, a magical artifact hidden within the basement of the mansion. It seems that ponies, however, decided to turn the place into a festival of some kind. Aset doesn't have much knowledge of pony traditions, so the sight is rather confusing, to say the least. But, as much of a bother as this is, it seems a lot of ponies are in all kinds of costumes, dressed as monsters, ghosts, and who knows what else. There is some luck in that situation then, as she needs not to worry about someone recognizing what she actually is. To ponies tonight she is just another dressed up pony.
The mansion, then, is what she heads towards. She walks in, along with some ponies, and ventures into the dark and 'spooky' corridors of the mansion. Aset has spent most of her life in a pyramid, filled to the brim with traps, so she hardly found the place scary. At least, until the first spook. As what seems to be someone dressed as a monster jumps out at her from the shadows, the sphinx lets out a high pitched scream and freezes in place. Almost firing up her magic in defense. She does calm down in time though. With a huff, embarrassed and with a racing heart, she picks up her pace to get to the artifact. A few scares later she makes it to a section that seems to be closed off by a locked door, with a rather weak magical seal on it.
The sphinx makes it through relatively easy, now being alone. From here the route is quite simple. She already knows where the artifact is, so Aset quickly goes in that direction. This section of the mansion has some more spooks as well, except those ones are real. She goes through arrows shooting at her, blades almost cutting her, and similar traps. Those don't scare her much though, Aset knows these kinds of traps too well. She makes it to the artifact in no time, snatches it and proceeds to make her way out. Aset does lock the door behind her, just so that no pony would go there on accident.
She can be heard screaming once or twice more before finally she exits the building, holding onto her artifact tight, as if it can provide any sort of comfort. She stands there for a moment, to calm down. Eventually, with the artifact in paw, she heads back to her home. But as the sphinx finally fully calms her nerves, she has to admit, overall the experience was quite fun. She is not very into pony traditions, but it has been a while since she was properly scared. She has what she came here for, and as a bonus the mansion was a thrill, she has to give them that. Perhaps next year she would do it again, this time purely for fun.

She wasn't normally one for crowded areas- fearful for the safety of others should she be around them- but this holiday lessened that fear enough for her curiosity and interest to overtake it this day. She had yet to finish the last touches of her toaster costume, so with her magic she made a costume of pure woven snow. Quickly, she became the absolute epitome of a snowpony. Her magimechanical wings hidden underneath the costume. Quickly taking out a couple of pieces of coal from her pocket dimension, she carved vision glyphs into them and put them over her eyes. Smiling- an action mimicked by the costume- at the quick but well done costuming job, she proceeded to the festivities.
She definitely /tried/ to corn maze, but... It was honestly a little to easy for her. It felt like navigating her magic through one of her glyphic arrays, but much easier, and she only took fifteen minutes to make it through. She thought maybe she was going through a little fast, but she couldn't help it.
Going a few levels up, she went into the haunted house. Almost every turn of the halls made her want to take off, but she was determined to keep her wings to her sides and make it through. At least until she felt a pulsing against her conscious mind. A primal, defensive side of her. Sleet. She ignored it for a while, though, desperate to prove to herself she could do this /as/ herself. But halfway to the exit, her tail- the only part of her outside the costume- was barely on the verge of ethereality. Portions of it shifting between shaped blizzard and actual /tail/. She knew that she wouldn't be /Icy/ for much longer, feeling Sleet pushing in, and so she ran to the nearest emergency exit. She was so disappointed as she flew off away from the festival, but this was only the first year of her doing things for Nightmare Night since she left her hometown! There was always next year, yeah?

As this is not Kookyshys first Nightmare Nights she prepared herself a spooky skeleton costume and brought her daughter Brownie Swirl with her, who is wearing the same costume her mother has made for her. It’s her daughters first Nightmare Nights and therefore she is scared but curious about all the different activities and asks her mother if they could go into the cornfield to scare other ponies looking for their way out. Her mother Kookshy agrees and so they both went into the cornfield trying to find their way through while trying scare all the other ponies with their costume that come up their way. After spending some time fighting their way through and having fun by scaring other ponies, Kookyshy and her daughter Brownie Swirl made their way through to the haunted house, where many ponies come out screaming.
Curious as she is Brownie Swirl makes her way into the haunted house, followed by her mother. Inside the house both get welcomed by scary and great looking Nightmare Nights themed decoration and spooky sounds coming from the floors above them. In front of them Kookyshy and her daughter find Nightmare Nights themed baskets they then take to find the delicious spooky treats by making their way through the hanted mansion. After both made their way through most of the mansion, while getting scared by various hidden attractions and other ponies trying to scare others with their costumes, they finally arrived in the basement of the house, where they are greeted by spooky fog and darkness lighted up by just candles. After walking a bit through the corridors they suddently get scared by scary bat ponies and which they believed Nightmare Moon herself, with scary thunder and screaming, which scared them both so much that they started running out of the mansion as fast as they could.
After arriving outside and being out of breath they both look back to he entrance of the mansion and start to laugh to each other. Having enjoyed this scary event they then both make their way to the other activities, like apple bobbing and haybale tossing and having a lot of fun until late into the night, where the event ends with Nightmare Moon showing up with her bat pony guards scaring everyone like in the past scariest of nights.
After that Kookyshy and her daughter Brownie Swirl make their way back home with their Nightmare Night baskets filled with candy to the top, enough for them to eat in the next few days.

Knight being a wolf that can control shadows decides to go into the cornfield, he silently walks through and grins as his body turns black and sinks into the ground as a shadow. He stalks everyone who enters, he would gently touch someones shoulder when they are alone, he would breathe loudly between couples of two and make them believe that there is a ghost among them, he spent a good amount of time scaring the wits out of all the ponies to the point where the organizers of the cornfield are left dumfounded, sure they set up some things to scare ponies but the ponies were coming out sprinting crying and hysterical. Knight laughed as he left the maze, completely satisfied with his work, now he plans to steal a few apples

The options were all neatly laid out for Ephee to choose from and all she needed to do was pick one.
A downtrodden manor, a supposed cornfield maze situated to the side, and a series of fair games located across the nearby courtyard. All she needed was a short moment to think and her decision had been made.
Obviously, any haunted building needed ghosts to dwell within, and the ragged dress dyed with red stains that she wore fit exactly that role. With a deep breath, Ephee pranced her way along the path and made it towards the entrance of the manor. The building looked old, but the illusion was partially broken by the hints of cleanliness within; the last thing they needed was someone to snag a nasty pathogen from digging around too much.
She wouldn’t be deterred at all, pushing forth into the entrance and scanning the surprisingly lit interior, with the twist that everything glowed an ominous green. All of the light came from a group of lamps arranged neatly in the corner, almost foreign and unrecognizable in design. Someone went all out this year.
Picking up the lamp that stood out the most, she ventured deeper through one of the doors - and she would pick nothing but the most menacing of them!
After a few minutes of inspecting various items and furniture, she noticed something… odd, once she moved a few rooms deep. The manor seemed to have... changed drastically, as if the estate took on a different form. A balcony found in the inside looking down on an empty room, a room with a pair of stairs simply ascending with a short walk sideways before descent, and even the way back appearing far distinct from what she remembered.
Ephee could only assume this was some form of illusion trickery, but she still felt her heart speed up, scanning through the rooms with gradual haste as the need to leave became the main priority. She found no such way out and only ended up feeling lost.
Then, a distant tinge of hope showed up, with the same green light from the lamp approaching her. Hoped turned to fear as the figure became clearer, it stood tall on two limbs, with long digits grasping the lamp and blank white eyes, scales and feathers poking through open sections of its clothed body.
She couldn't move, as it screeched then lunged right at her. The target? Her lamp. It would snatch it from her magical grasp, then gape open its mouth before… gently extinguishing the flame. Ephee woke up...? Then found herself in a circle of sleeping ponies with lamps in front of her, with only hers was unlit... but she questioned none of it, and quickly ran off. Home, and never again to this mysterious building.
